Convertibars question..
07/19/09 6:21 PM

Based on some comments I read in these forums, I checked out the convertibars. A couple of you have installed them, and I have a question maybe you can answer.

The instructions say you have to raise the fork tubes 1" in the triple tree clamps. So you are in essence lowering the front end an inch. Have you noticed any changes in handling, especially at high lean angles and on fast turns? I ride a lot in the mountains and some national parks and the roads test the big ZX14 well in her stock configuration.

I have Convertibars on my 14, and if I remember right the fork tubes only have to be raised about 1/2 inch (they are already about 1/2 inch protrusion for the stock bars )- just enough to give full coverage on the clamp - this does lower the forks a slight amount, but I hardly noticed any difference in the ride or handeling, ever so slightly quicker turn in, but still no hands stable at highway speeds.
So the total raise is about 1 inch, it is only a 1/2 inch increase from stock.
I also do not have any trouble with the fender hitting the horn or radiator (even with a gaurd on it) comming down from wheelies!
So far I have over 9000 mi on my Convertibars and am very happy with them - love the quick adjustability, from stock to almost +6 inches, but the wireing on the right side will need to be extended about 4 in. to take full advantage (easy with only 4 wires) and go with SS brake lines - great improvement on already great brakes - the left side needs no mods.

The info I got from Convertibars is the max raise is 4" and 1" back.
