Another Frame Slider Option...
02/01/13 7:03 PM

Noted the many discussions re slider options so thought I would add this incase it may help anyone.
Just installed a set of these.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/No-Cut-Frame-Sliders-KAWASAKI-ZZR1400-ZZR-ZX14-ZX-14-/370372461196?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item563beb428c&_uhb=1#ht_3419wt_711

There is good and bad with these. Please ensure you read the bad as its important!

Positives.
All arrived quickly after they were ordered and fitted perfectly during installation with no issue.
All components (alloy spacers and brackets, stainless bolts and delrin pucks) seemed of good quality and solid design though I am not an expert on metals or engineering.
Twin mounting points so there is not excessive force on engine mounting points alone.
The pucks are supported by good solid stems that of course also have connecting bolts through the middle to the mounting bracket.
No cut installation. After fairing removal, they mounted straight on.
Personally, I like the way the puck is slightly cone shaped with the lasered letters on the outside.
In my opinion, a fair price.
Spares are available if required.
Negative.
This is a biggy.
I bought these sliders from eBay. The ad advised item location was Canada. When I received the package I noticed it was shipped from Taiwan! No doubt a concern and something people will have to make their own decision about.
Again, everything looked good and solid when I examined and installed but until there is an actual test which I am in no hurry to do, its impossible to say for sure.
So far, am I happy with these?
Apart from the location deception, yes I am...

I'm sure they are as good as Sato or any of the other delrin tube sliders if they have the two mounting points. I believe that is about as safe as you are going to get. I have no problem with stuff made in Asia if it fits, it probably works as good as domestic items. Perhaps slightly inferior metal. Otherwise, it was copied and prolly wors very much the same. I would not worry a bit about something with no moving parts.

Rook, you wouldn't be concerned about the quality of the metals at all, especially the stainless bolts considering these are from Taiwan?
As I mentioned, all looked really good. But I admit I have a concern that if loaded the bolts might give if the situation arose due to inferior quality.

Yes, but the use of frame sliders on the 14 is somewhat sketchy in the first place. I do not hear of many people complaining about them causing frame damage but that is the concern.

There was a detailed study of a Chinese Pazzo lever copy and the only difference discovered was the that the Chinese metal was of slightly inferior metal and it was ever so slightly heavier. Neither of these were considered to impede the intended use of the product and there did not seem to be a significant dif in resistance to damage in a crash.

I'm not too concerned with inferior metallurgy. If it's a simple part that bolts on and doesn't move, I think it is probably fine. Yes, the Spiegler Co did all sorts of testing on the LSL sliders I have on my bike but I have no doubt The Asian copyists looked those two point brackets over pretty close.

In the end, if you really think you are going to crash every now and then, I guess you might need the piece of mind a recognized name provides.

I think that any kind of protection is better than none. And talking about deception, a while back I purchased the Shogun No Cut Frame Sliders, but when they arrived they didn't have the two mounting bolts and bracket as shown on their picture. They looked exactly the same as the ones Werks purchased for his 2012 ZX14R.

The 2012 - 13 Shogun's were as advertised. I do like the idea of more slider support as seen in your pic above.

Me too Tom, but I received the same ones you have. Don't get me wrong, they fit perfectly and they look great, it just not what they advertised on their ad.
