Thoughts on the kawi zzr1200
07/18/12 7:44 AM

Ok,
I posted up earlier that I sold my 06 zx14 and purchased an 06 ford Roush Mustang. I had owned a mustang every since 1987, and wanted to get another after being 3 years without one. I love the stang, but am really missing the 14. I will own another, but the timing is just not right. I hope to pick up a 14R in about a year or 2.
I came across a good deal on a zzr1200 at a pretty good deal and am thinking about purchasing to hold me until I get another 14. With the research I have done, it seems to be a compromise (although older) between the zx14 and the coni 14. I read alot of reviews, and considering I used the power of the 14 at only 25-50%. I think I will be satisfied for a while. What do you think?

They are like a hopped up ZX-11.I wanted one before the ZX-14.I heard they run 10.12 in the 1/4.They are sweet looking esp the blue ones.

Should be a good bike. Kaw seems to know how to make big bore bikes that are fun to ride and still work well.
Go for it. We won't kick you off here.

Thanks guys. It kind of reminds me of a cross between the 2000 katana that I had, and the 2006 zx14.

Well, I was considering selling the M109 and picking up a ZX14R, or a Concours 14. After logging in 280 miles on the 109, I have fallen back in love with the cruiser and feel that I would miss it greatly. While I was out, I stopped by and checked out the ZZR1200 in person. I must say, I was quite impressed. Plenty of get up and go, and large enough for me to be comfortable. He had some custome 2 1/2" risers which set me up nearly as much as a stock coni, with more power. Nothing near what the zx14 has, but still nice all the same. For under $3500, I don't think it will be a bad buy. Now I just have to convince the wife that I need 2 bikes again.

Great allround bike I just got out of one that I did nearly 90,000 3kms on, can't recommend them highly enough.

Well, I picked up the 2003 zzr1200 today. If I were to take the price of the corbin bags, and corbin seat away from the price that I paid for the bike, you could say I paid less that $1000 for it. I also got some other nice extras such as a cover, new oil and filter, 2 3/8" custom handlebar riser, and a shop manual. Drove it about 90 miles home, and I was really impressed. I read a comparison that kawasaki did in 2006 between the zx14 and the zzr1200, and they said that the power output below 120 mph was nearly identical. I don't know about that, but I do know that it has more power than I will ever need, and with the bags and riser, it makes a really nice sport touring machine. Best of all, with the money that I am saving in price and insurance, I can still keep my M109 for cruising. I will post up new pictures once I wax and polish everying.

I took the bags off and polished everything last night. Bike appears to be in very good condition. I think I will be very happy with my new toy, and don't have to worry about high insurance premiums. I know it is a little dated compared to the zx14, but I don't understand why there hasn't been much interest in the underrated bike. Love the fuel gage, and reserve. Although it appears black in the cloudy weather that we have hear, it looks dark blue with loads of metal flake in the light.
