To PC or Not PC that is the question
07/05/10 12:31 AM

Howdi,
I went and had my zx14 dyno'd on the w/e and i thought theold girl (50,000km old) did pretty well, 155hp stock as a rock. The thing I did notice was that my a/f was all over the shop, starting one side of the 1.3 dotted line and finisheing waay down the other end (varied 1.1-1.6) and I would like to improve this.

The guy tried to sell me a power commander and eventually a pipe but I wanted to think about it first

Before I spend $1000au (PC5 + installation and tuning) on a bike that already goes like a shower of shit I wanted to know

1) Does it really make much of a difference (seat of the pants)

2) Does it wreck the ridability of the bike its pretty damn smooth as it is and pulls like a dorm full of schoolboys already

3) does it really have to be loud, I like the stock system cause it is quiet. I like to do the odd 600mile day and I couldnt think of anything worse than having my exhaust barking at me all day

4) what does it do to your fuel economy (currently getting about 300km to a tank)

5) what does it do to the stock computer, I would still like to retain all the features (gear ind., trip meters fuel usage, range etc)

6) do you have to get it customed mapped ? how good a job does the auto tune do ??

I need to know this so I can figure out wether I want to go the PC5 or get my suspension sorted out (resprung for my weight, revalved and rebuilt) for about the same amount of money

Cheers

OZ

If you happy the way it is now, I wouldn't add a PCV. The difference wouldn't be worth the costs..imo

1) Does it really make much of a difference (seat of the pants). YES. Any mod in the performance direction just keeps climbing.

2) Does it wreck the ridability of the bike its pretty damn smooth as it is and pulls like a dorm full of schoolboys already. YES. From what you have now, yes. It will be like one schoolboy with all the bad habits.

3) does it really have to be loud, I like the stock system cause it is quiet. I like to do the odd 600mile day and I couldnt think of anything worse than having my exhaust barking at me all day. YES, it has to be loud. The difference is between an open door hearing traffic or the stock system, you keep the door closed and hear the same minimum in the room with the schoolboyspitting spit ballsan shit through a straw, not a loud speaker.

4) what does it do to your fuel economy (currently getting about 300km to a tank). I want to see if you turned the faucet open a bit, more shit would not come out of the shower head? Then it's give and take is take that great mileage away along with the noise that will fatigue you on the drone long distance riding that is.

5) what does it do to the stock computer, I would still like to retain all the features (gear ind., trip meters fuel usage, range etc). Nothing. Gear indicator is another problem altogether. No, PC does not affect the ECU.

6) do you have to get it customed mapped ? how good a job does the auto tune do ?? YES, a map says what you need at your altitude/temp/pressure for that day made, plus parts installed or removed. The auto tune feature will clean up the map per say. If it's rich, it will make it lean as per clean it up some.

I need to know this so I can figure out wether I want to go the PC5 or get my suspension sorted out (resprung for my weight, revalved and rebuilt) for about the same amount of money. YES, first suspension so you can control the schoolboys bouncing in the room. PC down the road is still up in the air? I do not use one unless you give me one is who needs it with the way the bike runs like a watch now. And have you been watching all the mods move back to stock, he-he-ho-ho-ha-HA!

I also get 300+ on a tank, riding reasonably fast. I have a full system 4 into 1 and it only barks when I am giving it the bone!!! Normal riding at 140km/h, I do not notice the noise. I have my flies out so a PC probably, but stock, waste of money, IMO.

300+ per tank! Holy Crap

I'm getting around 200km per tank. stock pipe -flies +PC3 +ignition module +dyno tune 165rwhp->176rwhp.

The seat of pants change I notice are; no lag due to flies, pings easy, feels harsh compared to the original silky smooth tune. But strong as a bloody ox! woo hoo!

GDAY ozjohnno;; MY LAST BIKE [CBR1100XX] I just had new cans pow/com etc & dyno I was pushed into it by my riding mates, I have to admit [in hindsight] it was money well spent. The [normal] lag[5k-6k] was gone, the noise also helped CAR drivers here me coming, as for economy [AS MY BEST MATE SAID] F: THAT YOU PAY FOR THE PRIVALIGE. UNLIKE ME WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS I WENT OUT & bought MY 09 ZX1400 AND BESIDES NOT BEING ABLE TO RIDE HER FOR 6-9MNTHS I AM GOING TO ADD A POWER/COMMANDER V TO IT. AC/DC ROCKS

ps. just ordered it within one week i"ts fitted, have a great dyno guy to map it!
