Yoshi R55 & PCV
08/30/14 8:19 PM

Need some help,
I installed the Yoshi R55 full exhaust kit and the PC5 at the same time. Im new to using a power commander. I believe I programmed it correctly. Went to there web site, downloaded there maps, opened the map for the R55, 17-005-006. Sent map, I believe to the PCV. Installed it, put fairing back on, took for test ride. Seemed so-so at first, then got up to speed and felt sluggish and had several exhaust pops. Loss in acceleration and power. Stopped to fill up the gas tank, barely started back up.
If yall have had similar problems and found solutions please shoot me the steps taken. I have taken the exhaust all the way off, hoping to find an exhaust leak. My Yoshi kit did say to remove exhaust gaskets at the head and leave them out, so I was thinking loose fitment there...

A poor ground causes most of the problems with the PCV.
But you may have a bad map as well. Do you have the auto tuner?

I do not have the auto tuner, a little out of my price range at the moment.

I used the main ground on the frame out the battery. Mine seem to be doing alright on the power and ground for the PCV. The power light on the PCV become lit after I start the bike.

What is the STATUS light used for? I read in the PC manual about checking TPS calibration. Don't have a lap top handy right now, only a tablet that wont run programs.

How did I download the map to bike? With the tablet?
How about if I remove the pc not the pipe to see a change this time.
A red light is a map download problem or something is out of range and does not compute. Green says the power is on and all downloads, any map change or other moves will pop the red light on. So green says whatever you did no problem, just a shitty map download. A Pipe does not make an engine barely hard to start back up.

So like Jimmy said, either bad ground or bad map, you say integrity of the ground is good = 'Cry out for a map on line' is the typical scenario if ground is good.

Don't own a lap top. Programmed at friends house this morning.

Ill pull the pc.

The status light did not come on, just wondering what it is for in case I do see it someday.

Are shitty maps pretty common?

I've heard DJ maps are not that great. Been a long time since I played with my PC5 but I remember you can retrieve the map or read what is in the PC5 from a menue. the file will have a name on it like any other file you place on your desktop. Should say "ZX-14/Yosh R55" or something like that. You should give DJ a call and let the tech do a interactive session on your computer if you you are not sure you have the right map. The guy I talked with was a little grouchy but if you're nice and patient, he'll figure it out for you.

I put the exhaust back together, unplugged the PCV, took for a test ride. Felt like its old self. Still got to figure out about the PCV, looks like I got to get a laptop. Not too many people will let you borrow theirs and give you their passwords and such.

I haven't used my Gateway LT4010u yet but that seemed to highly recommended. It is very small and could be mounted to the bike for tuning on the fly. Otherwise, you can run a USB cord out the window to the bike. That's what I have done for fuel management programming in the past.

just make sure it is not a Mac. DJ software won't work on a Mac.

Bought a lap top, plugged up the PCV. Started the bike to check TPS, then found Map Notes. Opened it up to find notes for a different exhaust. While trying to get the map, I downloaded the wrong one. Shot the correct one to it, ran the bike, TPS read 0. Took out for a spin, preformed and sounded excellent. Not that the bike couldn't perform before, but those giant exhaust cans didn't do the bike looks justice.
