Slowly but still in the correct directiom
10/02/15 2:46 PM

Went to Sonoma Raceway Wed nite for a few runs.. First two were 10.20s which were faster than previous best of 10.29 than I got a good run and went to 10.083. This thing is so much fun... Have a video of one run will see if I can post it.. Keep in mind my personal goal is into the nines on my street bike..Just as I ride it on the street..My drag racing days started a long time ago and that was pretty much what we did..
2013 ZX14R bought new five weeks ago , now has 5000 miles on odo.
Running street Bridgestones
lowered bike 2 inches at the rear so I could flat foot it..That is only change from stock
I am 5'5", weigh 139 with leathers, boots etc
First drag race was in teh 50s and I am the guy everyone loves to see show up .

Keep at it. With the bike 2" lower and at your weight you could get deep into the 9s for sure.

Still got a long way to go but tonite the bike did all the work, I just tried not to hold it back.. Good for a 9.726 @ 148.43.. with a back up of 9.927 @ 144.47 even with the front end coming up in 2nd or 3rd. Cant remember which :)
Still all stock except lowered...2in. in the rear and 1in. in the front
Now I gotta get a license when I go back.. The bad part is that at 77, I have to get a complete physical... oh joy....

My Second 9

Congrats... I can only hope at 77 I'm still out there!

Man, 130lbs suited? That makes you around 110lbs?

I just got my bike so will be a little while before heading
to the strip. My last bike never broke 10's but will be a little different
with the 14.

The track I go to is also NHRA friendly, which means if you break 10's
you have to have a NHRA lic.

I've looked into it a little bit and looks like a pain.

If I remember something like....
Full Physical, if older than 55 must include EKG. (I'm just over 55)
3 NHRA members to watch and sign off on you and I think it was
like $280 for 3 years?

I only go a few times a year for fun, so when I get down
to it, I'll have to think that over.

If you get your lic post up what you had to do and costs, I'd
be interested in knowing.

Guess I had better pay more attention to what I eat..I am now 139 ready to race..I was 125 in street clothes for the last few years.. Guess old age is creeping up on me :)

Our tracks here are also NHRA and I had to quit running after teh second nine, until I am licensed . And you are correct , full physical, but I passed a few yrs ago with no problems. I was getting mid tens on my ZRX1200 and thought I could drop a half second easily LOL... The 14 is putting out same power as the ZRX with a turbo @ 8# boost but man is it so much more civil...It is like getting hit in the back with a sledge hammer but you dont realize you have been hit till you are laying on hte ground ;)

I thought it was $300 for the NHRA license a few years ago.

And you are correct, 3 licensed riders must sign you off on. like 6-8 passes. consisting of half, full and easy passes or something along those lines. Which on the one night a week test and tune here in Indy your lucky to get 3 or 4 passes in 4-5 hours.

Pain in the ass.

Here ya go..

I Not sure of fee charged by the track, thinking it may be regular entry fee for whatever event is being ran..

I believe, that since I am current on my NHRA Membership, I only need to add teh lic fee which is $110 for two yrs.. As I read it..

you need the NHRA approved doctor physical too. So add the cost of a doctor visit to your tally

Yep.. Was pleasantly surprised to find physical only cost me 62 bucks plus lab.. Waiting for lab now..Hope to get this completed in time to make last race at Sonoma Strip.
EDITED>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Total physical was $130. It is complete and I spoke with Sonoma Track manger who said they will gladly let me test there next Wednesday , the 11th.. If everything works , I will be all set to start 2016 off right !!

Just a followup on my test.. It was no real biggie Since I had been running at the track recently, they knew me and actually waved three easy passes. They then worked me in to make four more passes ( they had to be single runs) I just sat close to the line and they pulled my up for a run as soon as they had a free moment..
