ZX10 front fender install
02/24/09 10:29 AM

I now have fender brackets for the installation of a ZX10 front fender. The kit came with only (2) M6 x 10MM bolts for the fender to install on to the new brackets so I "assume" I can use a couple screws from the original ZX14 fender?
Anyone know this that has done it?

Also, I can't get one of the damn plastic brake hose clips off. One is a piece of cake to remove but the other won't budge. I've tried my fingers AND needle nose pliers pulling it out....but nothing. I can't get my fingers behind it to squeeze the barb together either. I suppose I can just cut it to release the hose and leave the clip with the old fender. I assume you don't need the clips for the new fender.

Also, do I need to remove the front tire to remove the fender?

And lastly, I'm just curious what you think of a 2007 blue ZX14 with a matching OEM blue ZX10 front fender vs. a C/F unit, looks-wise. I think the blue looks like it belongs there more but the C/F adds a bit of bling/custom look. I am still undecided.

Any advise or opinions????

Thanks,
Bob

Gumby-you don't need to remove the front tire to get the fender off.It will slide out okay, with a little patience. But I'm curious-I'm thinking of changing to a zx10 fender myself.WHERE did you get a bracket kit? And is your zx10 fender CANDY PLASMA BLUE? Yep-I would definitely go with a blue fender as well. Can't wait to see some pics of your ride with the new fender!!

gumby, you can use the bolts from the 14 fender. get some blue loctite to secure them too!

i would also go with the blue fender to look more OEM. the cf would stand out too much for my liking. it would be a lot cheaper too to find a used fender off ebay like i did this past summer. $47 shipped i think it was. cf will probably be over $200!

blue07:
I posted this in another thread but here it is again:

Go to http://www.bikeland.org/board/forumdisplay.php?FID=27

Look for DUBIOUS. He sells them with the hardware. I just bought a set from him this week.
I don't have the fender yet but everyone that has, said his kit fits perfectly.

If you want his email, send me an email asking and I'll return it with his address listed.
I don't want to post another guy's address on a public forum.

rproctor@ll.mit.edu

Oh, and YES to the CANDY PLASMA BLUE....
(now I have to go check out fleabay for blue ZX10 fenders)
Let me know if you find any.

Gumby-I looked online last night for a zx10(CPBLUE)-it's an 08 color.GREAT PRICE-website is cheapcycleparts.com.Guy called me THIS MORNING-gave me the lowdown on the shipping. He said it would be about $14.00 to ship to Montana. That made the total around $95.00 or so.Sounded EXCELLENT to me. Probably get one in a few months.Gonna repaint an unused zx14 BLACK fender now.Bought the paint and base coat from Colorite(also Clearcoat).Cost $155.00 for the paint(s).:[ Wish I'd found this parts website BEFORE I bought the paint-Geez! 07 zx14 fender-$131.00 and $14.00 shipping!Babbitts and others wanted $150.00 shipping, not including the price of the fender($180.00!)What a rip off!!!Had this "new"fender sitting here since early 07,when I had to replace ALL my bodywork due to a "little" mishap.Hope this paint works well-seems fairly simple to do it right.Any one of you guys(or Gals)have cracking on the fender where the mounting bolt hooks it to the bracket?Mine snapped right away from the bracket, and started cracking upwards about 2 1/2". Surprise Surprise!!!Didn't even notice it till the other day when I was cleaning the front wheel. You all might want to check yours.Could be the bolt was too tight, started a little crack in the plastic under that metal eyelet with the bolt attached to it.I don't know, but it was kind of a shock seein' that separated like that!

Don't forget, Blue, that if you get an OEM ZX10 fender, you need to get the (2) black side pieces and the screws to attach them to the fender.

Did you have to get the '08 fender painted to match the '07 blue on your bike?
Or is it the same color?

Hey Gumby-The 08's are Candy Plasma Blue-as well as the 07's(CPB is #723(I think that was the designation). They MAY have started producing these zx10 fenders with CPB seeing that so many are being used for zx14's?Could be wrong here.Take care.
