Decel pop
10/04/16 1:13 PM

I'm fairly new to this performance game I have a hindle 4 into 2into 1 the two brothers 14 inch slip-on Muffler straight through noisy little bastard remove the Flies pluged the par valve lines and installed a map from jeffo. Bike is amazing how it woke up from its choked out state. The only problem I'm having is if I'm cruising at 4 grand or decelerating as I come below four grand Kaboom bang. No where else realy sucks
I think I found a small exhaust leak where the head pipe collector goes to the midpipe I might slice the pipe and clamp it if anyone has any suggestions which I'm sure they'll be plenty because you've all probably been through this I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks brogs
oh bike is an 08

They all pop on decel. Mine does it around 3200 rpm. If it is a full scale backfire, it's Jeffo. If it's just some pops, that's normal. Just about any 4-2-1 is going to do it on the 14. You might be able to reduce it by editing your 0% throttle column. Try cutting fuel back above 1750 rpm. I wouldn't mess with anything 1750 rpm or lower unless you have an AFR gauge.

There was a huge thread on here about Jeffo. There's been a few actually. Some people swore by his tuning and others fouled plugs and shot flames. I don't trust anyone who tunes over the phone. Sure, if you know a thing or two about fueling, you can make some small edits but then you're always going to run the bike and watch what happens with the AFR.

Romans can get you a PC3 map.

To tell you the truth, I have been into this up to my eyeballs all summer and my opinion is, if your bike runs good with the current map, you are probably not going to see a huge improvement with anything else. Everyone who says their bike finally runs the way it should have from the factory is either riding at high altitude or they have a map that is way wrong for the bike. If you're measuring a tenth of a second, there might be a difference from one map to another. Pretty hard to tell if you do not race. I have not been able to test enough to say definitively but I have a feeling having various well chosen AFRs in a map is the key. It may be way oversimplified but generally leaner up high and rich lower seems to work well. I think target AFR is the only 'magic' to tuning. Once that's established, everyone should get pretty much the same fuel numbers.

I have had several bikes tuned on the dyno using a power commander.
and have never had the operator engage the accelerator pump utility. That i know of or have seen

WEll I went to my dyno guy today.
All the things I heard about the feffo map I had the map checked.
he retuned shut off the accelerator it was making the bike to rich in spot.
I was hopping he could shed some light on the decal pop or sometimes backfire.
I witnessed whats causing it first hand the injectors shutting off.
Well I contacted Brocks and they referred me to someone who could flash that outa the ignition.
I talked to them today and they offer a whole lotta other goodies to go with the basic keeping the injectors on.
Timing changes, full power in all gears, rev limit change, top speed or warp speed restriction gone.
Will any of these changes be used if I have them done?
Will changing the timming curve do anything for a stock motor just de smog, flies, and pipes?
Any wise zx owner could advise what I may Want outta this package would be nice.
Any changes or one still the same price.
Thanks Brogs

Smart man. Uses the same tools as Ivan's. You're in good hands.

Most likely you're 0% throttle range is too lean, if you want to test this, try cracking the throttle SLIGHTLY as you are decelerating (that should put you into the 2% column), the popping will probably go away as that column is typically richer.

Try adding 10% fuel to the entire 0% range and see if that helps, go up in 5% increments if you continue to have popping issues.

If you want to save some fuel, on my map I have -100% fuel in the 0% at 3,500RPM and above

This is a great place to start and does help. The rest of the fix is in the ECU.
