I'm in the process of replacing my battery and found that the previous owner had put the battery in backwards. The negative terminal was facing the right side of the bike looking at the diagrams in the manual I can see that the positive terminal is supposed to be on the same side as the rear brake. the positive lead reachs fine, but the ground will not connect to were previous owner had it. I was wondering if you can tell me where it really goes. It appears that the ground from the negative terminal of the battery routes itself through the Plastic cover. Any advice would be great

The battery - ground wire goes to the frame. Your picture shows the bolt which appears to have aftermarket stuff grounded there.

I have had my battery in backwards for several years. I've always had it grounded to the bolt it should be grounded at with no problems and I also have a couple aftermarket items grounded to the same bolt. Make it tight so all have good contact, not over tight. I have heard of people stripping the threads in the frame.

When the motor is hot, the starter does sometimes hesitate ans under those conditions, I sometimes hear an arch. Don't know if it's the ground with all the stuff i have on it or just the aftermarket battery. Not a problem as long as I'm not starting and stopping repeatedly as I had recently been doing for tuning.

By the way, not only was the battery backwards but so was the cover and the top is tilted as is the whole it goes in!

If I were you, I just might start a thorough inspection of everything I could get to :)
