She just has it all - Just can't let go ?
10/24/16 11:22 AM

I've been riding for a long time and I've had several sport bikes over the years that I've ridden for thousands of miles then have sold them off but the ZX14-R is a bike that I've yet to even think about getting rid of it. The ZX14-R just has everything a rider would want - I think. Agree fellas? or have you thought of getting rid of it?

For me, I'm holding onto this ZX14-R until further notice. :-)

I have contemplated getting rid of my 14r, BUT I just can't seem to do it. My rational was I'm too old, it's too fast, I'm going to lose my license, I'm going to jail, I'll lose my job, etc. However, a full twist of the throttle and a sudden euphoric feeling wipes away any thoughts of getting rid of her.

I agree. I've owned lots of bikes but every time I get on the ZX I just smile. Whether its just going to the store or heading out cross state. Brilliant bike. And I don't even have an R, I have the old First gen!

same here. I've been weathering toughest economic times of my life (including college days) for the past 3 years or so. Any "sane" person would have sold the bikes off at least 2 years ago. The way I look at it, I'd be selling years of happiness and years of happiness to come for about 4 months of living expenses. That doesn't seem sane at all to me. Yeah, I've always felt the 14 was very capable no matter what use I put it to. I'm keeping mine until I know I can't use it anymore.

I to have had quite a few bikes in my time and currently holding on to a few bikes but by far the ZX14R is my favorite as of today's date 2016.

I have felt that way about many bikes over the years, but somehow another bike always comes along that's better, faster, more exciting. The MC Industry seems to be in kind of a lull right now, but soon there will probably be a ZX=14 with drive-by-wire, HD display screen, lots of electronics, and more. Then you'll change your mind.

One problem for me is the crappy resale we face on today's saturated market. It's hard to give up 50% of the bike's value just because some 'blue book' says so, especially after all the research, mods, and care I always spend on my bike. Unfortunately, it seems the ZX-14 has an increasingly narrow customer base right now. So like you, I will be keeping my ZX-14 for a long, long time.

Glad you guys agree that it seems like this is the bike to keep regardless of the circumstances. Riding the 14 just has everything I need, powerband, torque and of course beauty !

Hey motoman - so true it's crazy how little these pre-owned bikes are selling across the country. It's true I think that 50% below cost so another reason I think worth just keeping. I think saturaton is a good word, there's too many bikes and so many new machines being built with much more electronics on them.

I'm an old school rider so rode for many years without all the electronic gauges but honestly when I rode the BMW S1000RR on the track a few months ago, I was impressively surprised with the quick shifter feature.

However to get back to my original question, oh hell to the no, I love my bike and I'm holding on to her. :-)

I was considering trading for either a Ducati Diavel or a superDuke, but realized once the new wore off, I would not be happy with either when compared to the ZX14R

the bike has it all; very smooth ride, very good handling and smooth shifting, the most acceleration out there, highway cruise comfort, powerful aesthetics/ looks

The only thing would entice me to trade would be a revised version of our bike

ZX14MAN64 - So true...I would have to agree with that. It would be enticing to see a revised ZX14-R.

I totally agree with WillsZX14R. I tried other bikes - Ducati Diavel, Panigale, KTM Super Duke 1290 and Yamaha FJ1300. Ducati was a joke in terms of mid range torque. The Dealer guy says "If you replace the ECU and exhaust, the bike will havae a fantastic mid range!" I ain't paying $2K on a bike costs me $20K. My ZX14R is so sweet and does everything I want to do very well. I will be sticking with her for a long time.

I'm keeping mine until I know I can't use it anymore.

I feel the same way. I plan to retire in about two years, if everything goes well, this bike should be with me for many years of fun.

Can't get shit for my 65,000-mile '07. Might as well keep it. Runs great, no issues or expenses other than GTO (gas, tires and oil).

If mine was ever stolen, written off or lost for whatever reason, God forbid, I'd buy another one tomorrow.

This is the only bike I have ever had for an entire season that I still like as much or more than when I got it. 65K and still running strong? hell I may never need another bike. At 5k a year we will be on hover boards by the time I wear this thing out. I used to ride 7-10k but then I had a kid.

WillsZX14, I owned two ZX14's and they are awesome bikes. I put 15,000 miles on my 07 and 21,000 on my 2012. I test rode a BMW S1000XR and the quickshifter and comfort sold me....heated grips and electronic cruise control and ABS and traction control that inspires confidence. I sold my 2012 for a song and I do miss it slightly but I am loving the BMW so far!

The only thing I can think of that would make me get rid of this bike is if they supercharged it like the H2. Now that would be crazy!

zx14rider345 - Not surprised at all that you feel the way you do about the S1000RR. I rode a 2016 BMW S1000RR for two full straight days at the NJMSP track and I too was quite impressed with the machine, especially managing the bike with the quick shifter too. Nice and smooth throughout the ride. I gotta be honest, I still no matter what, love my 14R! If I can have both, perfect but having my 14R sitting in my garage makes me content !

Black1 - Now that my friend, would be tempting, very tempting ! lol

A few months ago, I bought another bike but yup, I still kept my 14R. She's quite happy in the garage.
