Gear Position Switch Question
04/02/23 8:25 PM

Hello All,
During the removal of my gear position switch to troubleshoot a gear indicator problem, I found a small amount of oil in the switch area. The contacts seem a bit dull and my intention is to clean them up a bit and see if it fixes the problem. I checked the parts breakdown and there is no seal to replace other than the o ring for the switch itself (which is intact and serviceable). The only place it appears that it could come from is the holes for the brass contact pins.
1. Is oil here normal?
2. If not, and suggested way ahead?
3. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Somebody please help with this. On my '13 the gear position display is inconsistent: Sometimes wrong by a gear, or even two, but usually 'catches up' pretty quickly and gets it right. I've never bothered looking into because it doesn't really matter much to me, but would be nice to know what might be causing it.

Notice line A out the case, then A at the shift drum. Only oring showing is between case and GPS. So yes it is normal is the leak, thus the oring to close the drips, a seep, or a weep.

See the springs going into the drum. those could collapse, stick, pop out and show the correct shift number. Total guess. Can't be the GPS unit if it keeps showing he display number. Could be spring collapse/pop.

Oring is an interference fit. the shallow groove sends the oring's curve out of the groove, thus seals the place assembly of the GPS; to crush the oring tight. If leaks, it says the oring has lost memory, and is flat crushed without bounce back... if unit is not cracked.
