Power Comander, under seat or on ram air
07/25/09 6:19 AM

I would like to use the LCD display or possibly the map switch with my PCV so it would seem best to have the unit on the ram air tube where wires do not have to be routed so far.

Why were some people installing their PC under the seat instead of on the ram air tube last year?

Rook, A friend of mine has PC111 and wide band commander on top of each other under the seat of his zx-14. Easy to get at. I wished I had done it that way. Looks very neat. He did say it was harder to install. Cheers.

I put mine up beside the ram air tubes then tucked the UBS wire under the ram tube towards the tree for laptop access. The map switch can be mounted anywhere. I left under the seat empty for future control boxes.

Okay. Thanks guys. I think the under seat look is sorta cool but perhaps not the best place if you have add-ons that require positioning by the instruments. I don't see why I couldn't simply reposition under seat if that is convenient for me at some point.

Hay farmer,
So, for access to connect your laptop, do you leave the end of the USB cable hanging out or do you have to remove that piece of plastic covering the duct? Once you have a compatible map loaded in the PCIII is there any need to connect your laptop again?

The usb wire is hanging under the ram air tube towards the left fork . All I have to do is pull the usb end out when needed and then tuck it under the tube when finished. I used to take off the plastic everytime but found it to easier to do it under the tube way. You just have to make sure to secure the wire so it does not fall down.

I'm using the power commander 5 with autotune ,so I am hooking up the laptop once and awhile to check the trims or configure the PC5 options.

Once you have a compatible map loaded in the PCIII is there any need to connect your laptop again

That would depend if the compatible map is any good. I'm sure you will !!

I guess it's kinda like carbuerators. Seems like I used to be continually adjusting my carbuerators. It's sort of an ongoing search for the elusive "sweet spot."
