Cuz Kruz, you are in striking distance to COTA. Been there for F1 race, If i was as close as you I'd do at least a few track days a yr on the newest 10R. That would be a world class fun day. Now that I think about it you have the ability to host a Forum members track day there with your stable of iron horses.

Well enjoy while you can then. Suburban development might save you from buying more bikes.

What if BMW makes something better than the V4? Then the Japs are screwed and you will be thinking about bike #11.

That was great how you called me out in that thread Rook, I would have posted but I'm not a member.

Kruz!! Sell a few of dem bikes ... and build your own track!!

Great idea, I'd love to but I'm guessing a three mile track would run $1,000,000 or more by the time you bought the land, laid the track and built up the pits and parking lot.. that stuff ain't cheap!

I think that 959 would be taking up space if you got a V4. ...and what if BMW does make something better than the V4? I've wondered myself, "what should John do to keep life meaningful" and the answer is ride motorcycles....but where does it end? Only you know what's right for you but you could build up a nice nest egg in ten years incase things don't turn out as planned. It might not last to the end but it could stretch out independent living a lot longer. I'm looking at my own parents and seeing that they could easily be in a nursing home of some kind if they didn't have the money they have. If you can increase your future security, you might feel good about that. It's up to you though. I'm not trying to talk you into or out of anything. Just saying what I think I might do.

You know you're going to buy bikes over the next ten years. How many will you allot yourself anf how much can you spend? Make a plan and stick to it like you would any investment. I would not let the motorcycle industry's development dictate that plan or you will be buying at least every two years. I'd try to set it up to reduce the probability of dramatic changes in your old age. Changes come no matter what but if you want to avoid drama, set it up so you know what to expect. Doesn't mean it will turn out that way but it should, at least to some degree. You've had good luck so far but you've had bad luck too. I guess I'd do some soul searching and decide what is going to give you the best peace of mind over the next 20-30 years.

That is a really cool bike though. A good one to be faithful through the stages of improvement that will follow it. No matter how improved or different the next latest and greatest bike might be, I'd make a pact to endure the itch to buy it. Scratch the next itch a couple years later.

The V4 shown with the white sides is the Speciale, and I'm wondering if it's street legal since I don't see mirrors. And I'm enough of a picky basturd that I MUST have those white sides ... don't care for the solid red nearly as much.

So now I'm thinkin' ... how to live like Kruz ... here's a plan!! A person with some equity in their home could take out a Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC), enough to put down payments on multiple bikes ... Hey, this could work!

Sadly guys, I think my dream of buying the V-4 just ended yesterday afternoon. I got pulled over by the same trooper that nailed me back in December, four months ago. That ticket was 26 over the limit, this one today was 21 over the limit. I need to go see my attorney this morning to see if he can handle this new situation. My favorite twisty road has become a hotspot for LEO as it has been recently discovered by sportbike enthusiasts from the DFW metroplex and they have come up here in droves on the weekends pissing off the locals and calling in the heat. I need to find a new place to ride. I know Rook, the track is an option but I'm not thrilled about the idea due to distance to the closest track. At best, my riding would be reduced to maybe twice a month.

Well I hired the attorney to represent the second ticket, this complicates things as it is only possible to have deferred adjudication once in any twelve month period. They said they may try to postpone the second one or bump it up to a higher court which ties things up for awhile, this is a mess, hoping for the best possible outcome but trying to stay realistic in my expectations. The V4 is definitely now on the back burner, I don't even want to ride what I already have.

That sucks Kruz. After I got my big ticket and had to hire a real lawyer because I was concerned it would get raised to criminal reckless driving I slowed way way down on the street but started doing track days. Once I realized how fast and safe I could ride all day on the track it helped me realize I was going to fast on the street.

I hope you can resolve this, I was really lucky and did. But, I know I used up all of my speed racer luck for all time.

Now, about that Forum Track day at COTA ....

The ZX-6R, that's three tickets on that machine since 2012, all were DPS. I'm guessing that bikes screaming sound track makes it sound like you are going a million miles an hour when you're not.

Bummed right now, I went over three years with no tickets and now two in about 10 rides, same location , same officer.

I thought it was the red bikes that got the most LEO attention.

I don't know for sure but I seem to get pulled over on that little green, screamin' meamie more often than anything else. The ZX-6R is also the most fun bike I have to ride the twisties on and I tend to stay in the upper powerband all of the time.

That ZX6 is amazing looking for being NINE years old

That tells me manufacturers were really good at motorcycle design until around then, and lately they've run out of new ideas

... well, except that Duc V4

Right, the '09-12 Gen ZX-6R was the dominate supersport for years finally getting toppled off it's perch by the Triumph 675R with the Ohlins suspension. I think this is one of the one's KHI really got right and it really doesn't need all the electronic goodies, wheelie control, quick shifter, TC etc., who needs it? I think the biggest improvements have been in the literbikes gaining more power; but way too high up in the rpm range for use on the street, track only and the electronics are only going to do anything if you are already riding on the limits, again not the best place to be on the road.

I'd start looking for a trailer and some Pit Bull trailer restraints. plan making it maych your truck hitch and the # of bikes you want to take to the track. I'd plan for 3 bikes but 2 ought to do it.

Ok, here's my setup. I needed to fit 7 sportbikes with radar detectors (the cruiser doesn't get no stinking radar detector) and the task of hardwiring all seven seemed a daunting task.

I looked at some of the motorcycle specific detectors on the market like the Adaptive unit but they tradeoff performance for convenience, not the way I wanted to go. Ditto on the cordless automotive units like the Passport 360 that can be moved from one bike to another easily enough but have really marginal performance.

So I thought this through pretty thoroughly and bought the current top performing automotive detector from Uniden, the R3. It has all the bells and whistles, is GPS enabled and has particularly strong Ka band detection which 95% of LEOs operate these days.

My solution was to wire up a power supply from a 1400 maH, 12.6 volt Lithium Polymer battery pack that attaches to the bike with Velcro while the detector uses the standard dual suction cup mounts. The battery pack weighs all of 3.7 ounces and will power the detector up to 5 hours, so not a cross country solution but plenty for my typical mission.

It takes about 20 minutes for each bike to figure out where the pack and detector will fit and apply the Velcro, after that, it takes maybe 2 minutes to transfer from one bike to another.

I am taking photos of each installation so I can remember where everything goes, hears the '11 ZX-10R, first bike to get the setup. After the photo was snapped I used Velcro strips to secure the wires and tidy up the cockpit.
