Chain Maintenance

I haven't done it yet (only 160 miles), but cleaning and lubing the ZX14R chain with stock pipes looks like a pain. Can you even take off the guard without removing the stock exhaust pipe? anyone have any tips, other than buy new slip-ons.

E

I found when new my chain needed frequent adjustment until about 2K miles. Its easy to drop the pumpkin chucker with a one bolt at the rear peg and the clamp underneath. I also remove the L foot peg assy so it's easier to clean and lube. I think a long phillips head screwdriver will remove the chain guard screws. The whole process is much easier with the L can removed.

That's what I thought. No doubt I will be looking for an aftermarket exhaust before too many chain cleanings. Thanks Rudy.

One of the reasons I went with 4 into one exhaust.Made a HUGE difference with that.

I's been so long that I've had a single exhaust, I can't remember what a PITA chain cleaning was like with stockers. Removing the belly pan and bracket probably helped too. I've had that off for ever as well.
