NEW FROM SOUTH AFRICA
08/16/16 8:20 AM

Good Day All. Firstly thank you for the acceptance on this forum. I am sure I will learn something from all on this forum.

For almost three years I have been wanting to purchase a ZX14, and two weeks ago I finally decided that it was time. I have never ridden a ZX14 prior to mine and did not even test drive one before making the purchase.......but I must say I am not sorry, this must be one of my best bikes I own, I know I should not compare my bikes as all of them have something special and are quite different.

Thanks. Just cannot wait to complete the break in period. Hoping that this coming weekend would be good weather so I can put some more miles on it. Will then take it for the first service next week and then only another 600km (375miles) and then I can really feel what this bike is about. I did perform a oil change at 250 miles and obviously the oil will again changed with the 1000km (625 mile) service. However I was thinking about changing the oil and filter again at 1600km (1000 miles) if so would you guys reccomend I then change to full synthetic oil? Or should I just stick with the Mobil 10W40 the dealer uses? Someone suggested I use Motul 10W40 synthetic oil after 1600km. What do you guys suggest?

Nice ride, excellent choice to add to your already impressive stable.

I went with the stock Kawi oil for the break-in and first two changes and then went Motul 300V at 1000 miles, its one of the best so you cant go wrong with it.

At age 47 and having had about 15 cars and 10 bikes and having never used synthetic oil, and never needing it, I'm not starting now. Some people swear by it, but I'm still not sure what they think they're getting.

I read a Consumer Reports test once that pitted regular oil vs synthetics in New York taxis: In some taxis they put regular oil, others synthetic, and after 100,000 miles and regular oil changes they had mechanics tear all the motors apart, then another set of mechanics that didn't participate in the tear down examined the internals and could not determine which motors had had the synthetic oil and which the regular. That was enough for me.

I suspect it's marketing baloney and a waste of your money.

Congrats on the new ride. Nice looking bike.
I've been riding since 1977 and have had several motorcycles,
and the ZX-14 is by far the best of the lot.
I bought my 2007 ZX-14 new, in January of 2008; and a test ride was not permitted.
I have 37,000 miles on the odometer, and the bike has been flawless.

So just to keep the scrum rolling - wtf does a new york taxi idling in traffic have to do with price of soap and a ZX14 engine and gear train??
