1 man bike loading

So, being partially disabled but still able to ride and drag race, I needed to come up with a solution to loading the bike in my van, Moby Truck. I figured out a few things along the way.

I made a tow bar out of 5/8ths all thread which fits through the front axle of the 14r. Then I made a spreader bar out of 2X4 with a big eye hook through its width in the middle and two smaller hooks on the end to guide the tie down straps I hook to the tow bar. That spreads them around the front wheel. I hook the straps to the tow bar and tighten the nuts down a little. I installed a $69 2000 lb ATV winch on the floor of the van, between the seats, where the floor is flat , so I can through bolt it and reinforce the bottom with a bit of plate steel. I extended the wiring for the controller out to the back, where I am standing. The wire cost more than the winch, lol.

I tried this today and it's total overkill. It towed the bike up the ramp and into the van without issue and i can use the tow bar to hook my tie downs to, so, I don't risk the plastics and clip ons by hooking them to the bars, like i normally would.

All in all, very inexpensive and now, I don't need a hefty friend to come over every time I want to go to the track. Yay!

My dad did something like that. I never could understand how he winched the bike up the tilting trailer without holding the bike vertical.

Nice project, do you use the winch setup to roll the bike out and down under tension control?

Could definitely do that and would if there was no one nearby at the track to help me roll it out. It's a 1:153 ratio in the winch, which makes it quite slow and steady but, very strong in pull.

Very nice kit but, big money. I'm into my solution for under $200 Canadian. I got alot of debt because I live in the most expensive city in Canada (Vancouver) so, I gotta save pennies where I can. :)

This site won't let me post pics but I'll put something on photobucket, here:
