So the question is then did he choose the wrong tyre or was he riding too aggressively on the correct tyre?

Tyre choice. It may be as simple as that. However, it was interesting to hear [last year] the tyre gm mention a 2.00 bar for the front and 1.70 to 1.80 bar for the rear. And when he said 'for any track' they go to, I learned a little about the black art. Experience wise, just a change in pressure brings back a different pattern on the tyres. Things like gumballing all around the tire, and not at the edge. A Cheese Grader pattern with no gumball present. Rainbow burns or a shine to the surface. All those are tyre pressure induced. 0.138 bar is a huge jump in wear patterns. Divide the bar in half and look at the range between the two. So it's back to the black art and things like tyre pressures between manu's. Some call for another bar for front and rear settings. Compound choices are the other hurtles you cross. So the pressure variable at the front says if the tire would have lasted? We'll never know. I'm just guessing at it, empirically.

Riding styles become the standard more or less. The boot edges being ground away before the pegs hit. The bike remains more upright so the knee down becomes the feelers. The 'elbows' out and Spies comes to mind. Now the elbow tucked in and MM's style becomes the standard. The next sort of standard started with the rear backing in. Now we are witnessing the front and rear simultaneously drifting together, and are we calling this aggressive riding or following the standard?

If you want to see this done correctly, try and find the 2013 Jerez race of the stk600 WSB race. That or watch the WSB race this weekend and check Kyle Smith's style. That standard is now 6 years old. Not many can do it. Zarco can and follows the standard.

In my opinion take this variable out of the picture and get everyone on the same rubber. Then the best rider/bike combination shines through.

(cough) If you watch the press conference, check out the hats they are wearing. We might say the cream came to the top. Well, sort of. Dovi doesn't hold the records like the other two, but he's stuck it out for a long time and I'll give him that. Oh'shit I did it again. That's going to leave a bad taste we have rubber in place and guess who showed up to your 'everybody on the same tires' party?

I recall this being the second year for mich to be motogp's tire sponsor. For how many more years I don't recall. Now that you mention it, everyone should be on bar without pressure breakouts. So the front ends run 2.00 bar, etc. But do you really think they all run the same factory recommend bar no matter the track?

Come on now Hub, you knew I was referring to all on either hard , soft or medium option tyres for the track thats being run. I have to admit that I had not considered pressures.

Things like gumballing all around the tire, and not at the edge. A Cheese Grader pattern with no gumball present. Rainbow burns or a shine to the surface. All those are tyre pressure induced.

Apart from riding style and ability, won't suspension settings also play a part?

The next sort of standard started with the rear backing in. Now we are witnessing the front and rear simultaneously drifting together, and are we calling this aggressive riding or following the standard?

A very fair point, but there is no doubt the tyre manufacturers are considering this new standard in their designs. They have to or they will fall behind the game and we've seen how embarrassing it is when a race is affected by tyres failing on more than one rider or races shortened due to concern the tyres won't safely make the distance......

RE: 2018 Moto GP

If only MM knew how to follow the rules and couldn't see the advantage to that hindsight. That's the only mistake I see rule book wise. Going back on the grid was more the logical move than penalize a restarted bike. I don't see the advantage of it. However, once again MM impresses. I'm sure if MM started dead last he would have pulled it off leaving from pit lane. The race was MM so I clicked on his cam and rode along. That boy is one aggressive rider and when the wind whooshes, MM is on the raggedge of that door closing on the whoosh, because he sure is not in the clear if you get my meaning.
If you look at the way he passed one of the back markers, that was paint scratching, rider rubbing leathers together. I'm saying MM wants you to sit up he shows a wheel that late in the turn. And did MM let that rider pass him because he gave himself his own penalty for that, or did I see MM turn around and flip the guy off? Was that for poor sportsmanship, or did they miss a penalty for that one too?
If you repeat the entry MM made on Rossi, MM had that corner made. Again, see if you can find MM closing the door on the back markers and MM has the same MO for that rider as well. Rossi just kept on closing down the line. Now, did Rossi have enough time to think to sit up or play the blocking game? Door late in the close, or needling a thread in that closing hole, that looked like MM's move on each rider and it cost him in riding techniques?
If only I could pick the lotto numbers like this, or played some vegas odds game, but here is where I lose my audience when I see my predictions [just like last year] line up like bowling pins, with Zarco and Rins in the winner's circle, and Pasini wins. Scary, ain't it.

I don't know Hub...

I am a massive Marquez fan.
But even I have to admit that was way over the top.
To much un-neccessary aggression and dangerous riding.

One of the two victims was Rossi.
So of course everything is multiplied by a factor of 1000.
Although in my opinion Marquez was 150% to blame and should have been more consilitory in his post race interviews, of course Rossi was at it again saying things like "Marquez did this on purpose" and "Race direction need to do something about Marquez's unacceptable riding style".
Rossi is a sour fuck who can't stand being slower than anyone else let alone Marquez.
I don't give a shit what comes out of VR46's jealous whining mouth anymore...
And when Marquez went to the Yamaha garage to apologise for his mistake and Rossi gutlessly sent his little arse licking mate out to say "Piss off", that said it all...
I also notice Zarco, a notoriously aggressive rider/passer who caused Perdosa to high side and crash in the same race didn't get a mention from Rossi.

I thought Marquez had matured past the point of doing what he did.
I was wrong.
However to say he knocked Rossi off intentionally is ridiculous.

I also now know I think even less of Rossi than before which I didn't think was possible...

Rossi mentions how aggressive MM was in the previous practice rounds, meaning, slicing off other riders sort of in the same manor. Seems it carried over for the rest of the weekend. How come no one cried foul the previous days of practice and qualifying?

Rossi's slow ass got him in trouble and should have seen MM coming on the screen and let him pass. He blocked MM instead. I wish I could see Rossi take that same corner and see where he consistently winds up? The Texas Tangle is up next so the drama continues with the old fart crying foul and slowing down the faster riders, because he can't handle being passed and oh that legacy look to it.

It's a dangerous sport and people take risks to get ahead. The track is (should be) a safe enough place to crash so why not expect opponents to hit you if you are slower? They can go faster than you and they're not going to dumb it down for slow riders.

Anyone hear Lorenzo going to Suz? Dani is out this round due to an operation needed from that crash.

That's the rumor going around. Ducati are going to have to pony up some big bux to keep Dovi if he does as good this year as he did last year. And paying Borenzo the most of any current MotoGP riders for the results he's made so far is going to seem a bad deal. Suzuki will probably want to keep Rins, but I can see a seat opening up for another rider unless Imapony gets his ass in gear.

So now that MM has be penalized for jamming up other driver to slow them down, will he take out a few drivers as usual or step up and drive like a Champion?

I wish I was able to watch MotoGP. From what I saw, it was MM riding aggressively but not with the intention of crashing anyone out. He's learned that he gets beat when he submits to aggression so he's chosen to be the aggressor. ...but admittedly I have not seen MM in action except for a couple clips with Rossi.

MM intentionally jammed up other drivers in qualifying Sat.

Come on Crude, you are one of the guys who's views I respect here but thats not your most astute comment.

You know 100% for sure Mark Marquez did that intentionally?
It couldn't have been a mistake?
No doubt what so ever?

Or is this simply your opinion which of course you are entitled to?

Just my worthless opinion. The guy is in the zone, bike, track and skill has all come together.

I saw this in F1 a few years ago. Sebastian Vettel was simply unbeatable because he was so dialed into the car no one could touch him. The races were all for 2-3-4th place. Some think the F1 changed the motors and cars to break up his dynasty.

As far as MM, racers do sneaky stuff to win. This is what I thought when I was watching the GP qualifying live. The penalty was useless, he went from 4 to 1 before the first turn and never had to look back. So great win for MM, to bad he tainted it with his BS in Q2. So much for the "powerful" V4 Ducacci, at COTA with the long straight it should have dominated.

HA! Here's the latest comment I overheard... 'The riders holding up MM should be penalized!' I thought that was funny but true. Not only that, but those embarrassing Americans were booing MM when he qualified first and booed him again when he won. I thought that was a cheap shot by the fans, but if you were wearing Rossi wear, I would have liked to slap each one in the face and wake them up!

The next theory was Dovi's duc. Here tell that if they ran a lot of trail to steer it in Texas, the back end would come around and kick out. So we concluded that Dovi had nothing for MM and he'd be low in the results... which did come to fruition. The suz was looking good in early practice and qualifying, but the maniac couldn't match the skill of MM.

MM always pushes to the limit [and crashes a lot] to sees how well the bike/tires/track can reach that limit and then he turns it back a little so he won't crash out when it counts. You're just going to have to suck it up Rossi fans. The man had his era and can't take what MM delivers, meaning, Rossi should shut the fuck up and submit to the new era he can't compete with.

I've been saying this for so long.
Therefore I think I love you Hub!

He had his day in the sun and he should have quit before it set.

And thank you Rook.
The Rossi tide is well and truly turning.

Every rider in Austin Texas was trying hard to gain the best possible finishing position in the race except for one.
Marquez simply toyed and played with them.
It actually was embarrassing for the other riders to see just how easy he did it.
No matter what you think of him and what he is doing/has done, you simply cannot question Marquez's skill to ride a motorcycle very fast...

When I was watching Q2 and saw MM jam Vino I just thought it was a Dick move, typical of MM. But when the GP race officials gave him the penalty, they confirmed what I was thinking - punkass eurodog Dick move. But the obvious eurodog Dick move is just my opinion of MM.

What the hell???

No matter who you follow in MotoGP, most still have time for Dovi.

But apparently he has been listening to the dribble coming out of his fellow countryman Rossi's mouth and has decided it's fine to do the same and also get in on the act.

The incident between Pedrosa, Lorenzo and Dovi was a racing incident. No more.
Lorenzo could not see Pedrosa and visa a versa.

But if blame had to be attributed it is to the 2 Ducati's. Once you leave the racing line due to a mistake you must look out for others before you rejoin it.
You can't just dangerously push back in without looking.
Pedrosa was cleanly on the racing line and Lorenso and Dovizioso were rejoining. Lorenzo then hit Pedrosa and then ricocheted into Dovizioso.

And yet Dovizioso blames Pedrosa primarily and Lorenzo secondly for the incident.

Such a shame when great racers talk such bullshit...

I can't watch the action but it sounds to me like more riders are willing to crash to stay ahead and I for one like that. This is competition, it's not driving on the expressway. Anyone afraid the guy in front has more balls best stay behind. Either that or wait until someone else crashes out with him and then make your move.

That duc camp is somewhat volatile because Lorenzo has made some sort of comment against his team mate. Then Dovi added to the fire and blamed Lorenzo for the incident. Okay then, lets break it down. Who dove too deep and caused his team mate to take advantage of the blown line? Dovi. If Dovi stayed in line, Dani would not have swept up both blunders in front of him. Lorenzo could not see Dani hug the curve to steer clear of both riders. Only when Lorenzo sat up is when he collected Dovi; who was way outside of the apex still recovering. It was a simple racing incident when close racing occurs.

I'd have to slow it down, but how could the honda be pulled back up and snap Dani up in the air, but the bikes momentarily latching onto each other. Unless the jolt snapped the front end one way and for every action, it snapped back and there is your high side. With Lorenzo sitting up, his trajectory was now lined up to take Dovi out.

I'd blame it on Dovi not Lorenzo. Dani had that line hooked up... if only.

For moto2 I dragged and dropped Miguel Oliveira onto the screen and rode along with him. Impressive. He qualified 10th and finished 6th. To watch him gather up those in front, and then closing down on 5th was only a few bike lengths away. It was mostly in the same sector that he collected the others with. Come to find out the guy is 2nd in points. That's a contender. Mir takes a 3rd after 5 rounds worth. Didn't take long for this potential.

'Crutch The Crasher' is one sad case. He and Lowes costs the team and team principal a lot of extra work and money. I knew CtC would crash out last race with pole in hand. Same goes for Zarco it seems. I didn't see that coming. Zman was way too aggressive and hasn't matured yet. He had so many laps to go, but damn, you need to see the start of the race. Even though he had the pole, Zman was gobbled up within yards of the start. Then he sliced thru so many riders it was the move of the race. That put him is 2nd place. Too bad he tossed it all away just a few turns later.

Like I said, and yannih is going to take it all back, but you can never doubt The Doctor. The old fart still can show you how it's done.
