I have a 2006 ZX14 with the stock rear fender/license plate holder which is ugly as all hell. So Ive heard about making your own fender eliminator kit for pretty cheap??? Can someone please help with this maybe post some pictures or a link to some pictures of various home made kits?? anything will help due to the fact that im in the process of putting a new crank and rods in the bike so money is tiiiiggggghhhhtttttt.

you can make your own with some "L" brackets if you don't mind drilling new holes in the undertail. I didn't want any extra holes so I used this

Do ALL eliminator kits cause you to lose the strap hooks?

Yes the hooks are part of the finder but you can make your own and cut the finder to keep them if that’s what you want!

I bought mine as it came complete with LEDs to light up your plate at night.
Here in Oz the cops like picking on bike with tail tidies as they class them as a defect.
I got mine from R&G Racing, was a little pricey but hey, my mistress is completely worth the money :)

I was thinking the same thing as heathun. That is the only way to get the nice tip of the tail position for the plate. I compromised a couple inches forward and got er done for about $1.

ok, it is gonna cost a few bucks if you want to plug every hole with a neporene washer and bolt. point is, no need to alter the OEM equipment and no need to spend more than a few bucks.

Anyone thinking about this, I had two seasons on a hugger-only rear end on my ZX14 and was about to put the stock rear fender back on when I traded it in.

The back end of the bike gets filthy very fast.

If you actually ride in the rain you'll wish you had a fender.

I know looking like a racer-wannabe is all the fad, but it doesn't make it handle better, or go faster.

And nobody likes a dirty bike. Heh.

For that reason I don't plan on removing mine anytime soon. I even thought about adding the rear hugger.

Good for you, man! No reason to remove the fender. Won't make it handle better. Heh.

I am actually putting a rear fender extender on mine, just like the extender I put on the front. Part of the reason is to keep the fling in rain and dirty road surfaces to the absolute minimum, and part is I will eventually put a hitch on it and the rear extender is necessary to keep the hitch and trailer clean.

But the hitch/trailer ain't happening in 2012, lol, they are big $.

The aftermarket one I have still gives you the option to use the hooks. I will have to see who it is. I still have a brand new in the box I think. Bought a new one for the second bike, but used the old one I think.

I took the hooks off the stock fender and still have them mounted on bike.

No reason to remove the fender. Won't make it handle better.

Not if that is the only thing you are going to remove but at ~1 7/8 lbs, it's a nice start. I dropped close to 100 lbs off my bike.

I don't have a problem with dirt flying up at all. The seat cowl almost never needs to be washed. The tail fairing gets some fling from the grease I use as cold weather chain lube but that is it. I avoid rain riding AMAP but if I get caught in the rain, the swingarm and undertail mud flap get filthy. The tail light area and all else on the tail are no problem.

I'm sure a hugger would eliminate the hardest to reach mess.
