For the people who have already got some HIDs in their 14, is it worth it? where is a good site/place to get some good quality ones. are they easy to install is my last question.

look for hid in search. It's worth it cause when you are doing 70 plus on the highway it's hard to see what's in front of you. I almost hit a blown up tire going to Kansas!!! the hid claim a 300% better visibility. Look for small ballasts though. They have some that are as big as deck of cards, I wouldn't get those!

I wanna get hi and low, and white light maybe with a hint a blue a little bit like those bmws or mercedes. What kinda bulbs do I need? I hope they don't get too hot cause I will need to put painter tape over them for track days.

HID's are worth the money for LOW beams only. I replaced both Low and Ho and am a little frustrated that they need to "warm up". Putting them in to my HI beams now does not enable me to "flash" the occasional asshole that needs bright light immediately to say wake up mother fucker before you kill me. If you look on eBay you can find the wires that go directly from the HID ballasts to the OEM plugs, which are cheap and make for a very clean installation.
-Just my 2 cents

What kinda bulbs do I need?

Lows are H11's, highs are H9's.

I hope they don't get too hot cause I will need to put painter tape over them for track days.

You could diconnect them... or just pull the fuse.

Yep, good point. HID's need to "warm up". If they've been on, you can flash them (atleast digital ballasts))... but if they've been off, it takes a few seconds for them to reach full brightness. I'm one of those assholes that typically rides with my highbeams on during the day, so not an issue for me.

To the OP:
IMO, once properly adjusted, the factory headlights are great and therefore HID's are not necessary... That being said, lighting is something you can never have too much of and HID's are an affordable, worthwhile upgrade.
I got Xentecs, off of ebay, and am very happy with them. The ballasts are small and they came with all the adaptor plugs needed to be plug and play.

Here's a couple of pics of the ballasts next to a deck of cards:

If you buy what Dogo recommends, you might not get the smallest ballast possible, or something.

Don't know about you guys, but I like to learn as much about a modification as I can to a point, so I can make an informed decision.

No afront to DogoZX, he recommends a good alternative.

But if you guys don't use the SEARCH function, you will miss seeing information which may cause you to make a different decision.

You won't get the benefits of the forum.

Dogo those ballasts are really nice & small. Mine are like double to seize of the decks of playing cards... and I have 4 of them. I rarely get pulled over (work with them, so never get tickets), but usually get pulled over because of the Hi-Beams...

No shit?... Been pulled over for a lot of things, but never running highbeams during the day... infact, here in WA, they teach new riders to do just that in the begining rider's saftey course. That would be a ticket I would look forward to having a day in court over.

DDM Tuning RULEZ !

Ask for minature ballasts, and you get near credit card size units. I just used clear silicone (RTF) adhesive to fasten them inside the upper cowl just below the bottom of the windscreen, where they get pretty good air flow.

Try putting one of the larger ballasts in that spot, and they will contact the instrument cluster, which is not a good thing. Buggers get hot.

Anyway, my DDM Tuning 35W 6,000 color were easy to install, hooked up to the OEM harness easily, and have been bulletproof for 3 seasons now.

Haven't made the switch to HIDs yet and don't think I will, I went the cheapo route and bought xenon replacement bulbs and adjusted my beams upwards a bit. The Xenons aren't quite as bright as the HIDs, but they are much brighter than the stockers and I find I'm rarely hitting the hi beams anymore.

i just installed the HID's on my low beams and the hyper white xenons on my high beams and i must say they light up the night. i was considering doing both lo and hi beams with HID's but found out i neeeded the room for my PC5 where my slim ballast went... just go with the lo beams and get some halogen super bright xenon bulbs it looks awesome...
also if u can change out the marker lights with led's as well...

My piggy is tie-wrapped to the left ram air tunnel.

My DDM Tuning ballasts and starters are all in the top cowl, semi-permanently attached with silicone adhesive on the inside of it. Was a close fit, but I got all in neatly and it hasn't come lose in 3 years so far.

I took the top cowl off last winter, and all I had to do was take the cowling off, take the two bolts out that hold it to the cross-brace, disconnect the OEM frame-side harness from the top-cowl-side harness, and sit it on the bench.

The entire DDM light kit (lo- and high- both) is in the top cowl.

Leaving room on the ram air tunnels for the piggy, and the fuse block on the right, and stuff like that.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and was lookin for some information.

I been on here a few times readin yall's comments about HID's and I went with the DDM 35W 6000k for my lows. Installation was easy enough but I'm havin a little issue now. I wasn't really sure where to secure the ballasts so I put them on the flat plastic part right over the air filter (bad idea?) using 3M adhesive tape and just left the black box in the middle of the relay tucked up under the inside covers. After installation I backed the bike out to see the lights, turned the handle bars and it caught the black box in the relay and disconnected the relay. After reconnecting the relay, all I get is a nice little buzz and then no response from that headlight.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong/solutions? Also, could help me out with a photo on where to secure the ballasts and what to use to do it? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Since everyone's stumbling over each other to help I'll give you a suggestion. Turn that plug around. The DDM kits have plugs which are not indexed and it's easy to invert the polarity. Maybe by now you already figured this out. Hopefully it takes care of it. DDM's ballasts are pretty tough so I wouldn't think anything broke. However I posted a pic of my mounting location incase you want an alternate spot where you'll never have to worry about them falling out nor getting wet, ever.
