lowered my bike
03/10/14 3:57 PM

Yesterday I finally got around to lowering my bike. Little bit more of a pain in the but than I thought but took about 45 min doing it by myself. Can't tell a whole lot from the pic but you can really tell standing next to it. My only concern is the bottom of the links sticking out of the bottom of the bike. They seem to be sticking out a little lower than everything else. if I have problems I'll probably just cut the end off since That hole would put it back to stock and if I put it back to stock then I'll just put the originals back on. I circled the bottom of the link in red.

I wouldn't worry to much unless you hit a very hard bump and bottom out which is unlikely

I think you're probably right Bobby. I actually hit a bad bump on the interstate last night and all was good. I kind of want to go down to the lowest setting but then I may just have problems.

I added some adjustable lowering links to my 07 once....they were not sticking out lower than anything....you sure you have the links adjusted right?Mine had two adjustable ends on em.Each end I mean was independently adjustable.Yours are like that?I still have those links. When installed, everything appeared like stock at the shock mount fitwise.

Mine are made different. Mine have one hole on one end that bolts to the swingarm and the other end has three holes that bolt to the shock. Its on the middle setting so the hole all the way on the end sticks out a bit. If it was on the first hole then it would stick out even further.

Okay...I see what you're talking about now...any way you can turn those around so the center hole is attaching to the upper swingarm bolt? It'd be the same distance, yes?I think mine had a couple of spacers in there to even things out.Does yours?(Mine couldn't be angled 'closer' into the shock mount fitting).Or are yours already cast to configure to the difference in the space of the two mounting spots?(like the factory bones).

No mine only go one way and that's it. There wouldn't be any room to adjust it without it hitting on another part of the swingarm. It's a bit hard to explain.

Mine were 'kinda' like that...but they came with spacers to shim the bones equally at the swingarm(upper fitting) and shock fitting(on the bottom). They could not angle closer together at the shock fitting....if they'd of had ball joints...then it would have been okay. But I see what you're saying.Maybe you could cut that overlap off? That is...if you're not gona use em in any other setting. They shouldn't be hanging down like that...easy to catch something in the road....who knows?

I've even turned my midpipe/header clamps horizontal instead of having that bolt end pointing down...just to be on the safe side....To me,it's a snag waiting to happen on something..a 2x4 or something.Ya never know.Even the new bike engine has the oil plug going horizontal now....instead of pointing down.

Yea that's what I was thinking of doing. I'm going to cut the excess off because the part I'd be cutting off is the stock height setting anyway and if I was to go back to stock I'd just use the stock links. I doubt I'll ever go back though. I think it looks awesome and it's so much more comfortable now! I did the same thing with my clamps lol I turned the blot head down as well. That way it was out of the way but you could still loosen and tighten it if need be. I think im going to get a low profile drain plug as well and shave off the guard for it to get some extra clearance there as well.

I have the Brocks adjustables and at there highest setting there still about 1" lower than stock. BUSAKILLER, the stance, and ride seem better. Looking good!

I have similar links on mine. The links will not touch down or hit anything. I have had the oil pan and pipes scrape though During Hard cornering and deep dips in the road riding 2up. You can also install the lowering links in reverse where the 3 lowering holes are on the top near the shock. A few of my buddies had there's installed that way with no problems. Also mine is lowered 1.5 inches in the front to by raising the forks tubes up in the tripple trees.

You mean bolt them to the top of the shock? Right now, the side with one hole is bolted to the swingarm and the adjustable side is bolted to the bottom of the shock.

Yes you can reverse the links so that the adjustable holes are on the top of the shock. But my friends bikes are 06 -08. Should be the same setup Also the top hole is the stock height. Middle hole is appmx 1.5 - 2 inches. The 3rd hole on the bottom is the lowest setting appmx 2.5 - 3 inches. Mine are curved like the stock links, not sure if that makes a diffrence.

Mine look like these

Think I may know why I had some issues with mine using last hole. The links I got speck a 2 in and 4 in drop. If you got the ones that are 1.5 in and 3 in you should be good. 4 inch drop is too much for street. 3.5 inch drop and you should be good0

im pretty sure my roaring toyz link was the same way when i tried the middle hole. but my links are black so may not of been as noticeable. plus i still have the big bulky stock cans on too. i dont think youd have to worry about bottoming them out honestly but it probably would bug me also to see them so id say just cut them.

Yea I'll probably end up cutting them. Simply because it will probably end up bothering me. I'm hoping you're right about not bottoming out. I think if I do have problems it'll be when I stretch. Although I'm bit stretching it that much so we will find out I guess

I rode mine lowered 1.5 inch at the front and middle hole on links at the same height for a while before I stretchex mine. No problems with links touching down. Was able to scrape mid pips while aggressively riding some very tight twisty mountain roads though.
