Exhaust/Slip ons which looks big like the zx14r stock exhaust but with s1000rr sound.
04/22/15 8:13 AM

I want to put a new exhaust on zx14r... Btw i just love the stock exhaust looks of the 14R..Dont want to give up on that...It Looks like 2 big bazooka mounting out of the tail.. I wish i can get good exhaust note out of the stock one.

Very particular about the sound as it shouldn't be deafening loud as i do lot of touring on 14R.. I don't want to invest later in noise cancellation helmet/earphones..

I Just loved the sweet exhaust note of bmws s1000RR.. I think they get akra by default...

So can you experts, plz suggest something which looks big and huge like stock zx14r exhaust but with a sweet superbike sound { not very loud}...

"Btw i just love the stock exhaust looks of the 14R"

I actually have no input into this one as I never thought I'd see the day where someone wrote that about the stock pumpkin launches!
Absolutely no issue, but wow!

If you really love the look of the OEM but want to get a better sound, you can gut out the OEM. I haven't seen anyone doing it on ZX14R, but saw several OEM gut out videos of other makes on Youtube.

yeah i just love the stock exhaust look... it gives a huge distinction amongst all the superbikes and the rear of the bike just stand out.. But yeah that varies from person to person.

Let me check the gut out video on youtube. Btw what does it mean?

Will it give a nice exhaust note as compared to the stock settings??

Gutting out an OEM exhaust means that you remove the welded baffles inside. The OEM muffler is very restricted in terms of the exhaust flow. This is to reduce the noise. BY removing the baffles inside, the OEM muffler will get more flow and more flow means more noise. I am not sure if it is mellower than after-market slip-ons, but it will be certainly louder than the OEM. I used to have Yamaha Maxim700X (Many of you here are too young to remember but it was a 20 valves cruiser). The OEM exhaust had 4 plugs and I just drilled them out. The bike sounded so much better. ZX14R's exhaust is not as simple as that but it is still possible to do it.

I found this in another forum. http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=27&TID=40754

"Take off your lower exhaust pipe and stick the muffler/baffler end up into the air. Point it towards the moon or sun (if it is day time) The end (towards the header) of the pipe will now be on the floor. A cement floor is required as compared to a expensive oak strip floor in your living room. Take the muffler/exhaust in one hand and drill into the opening through the circle of metal. You might want to start out with an 1/8 bit and then work it out to a larger opening with a bigger bit. It's should be handled with delicatesy as if it were your young girlfriend out on your second date and her parents would kill you if she cried.. Muscle is required so I recommend a sleeveless shirt peferably with a big S on the front. A shot of tequila will give you more power with your drill. Did I mention a hydralic drill? Ah, yes, you will need one of those. Have your wife or girlfriend standing there to see how macho you are. Now start drilling. And Drilling. And drilling. Eventually... it will break through and you will scream with rejoice. Your wife/girlfriend will come over and feel the muscle on your arm. Now repeat after me.. You will then say.... "It was nothing". And smile. Now make sure it's a Tom Cruise smile and not a faggy smile. Woment know the difference. Now switch to a bigger bit and repeat the same process. Don't forget your shot of tequila in between bits. It will give you more power. Eventually on your second or third or fourth bit you will get all the way down and will scream with orgasm ( no pun intended). You will be happy and your wife/girlfriend will be happy. Then pick her (or him) up in your arms and take them to a quiet spot in the garage and show them how macho you are.

As I write this I remember that it was harder than I thought. Hope this helps-"

Good luck!!

thanks oldman... Kawasaki service engineer told me that one guy tried gutting out the stock exhaust and the sound it was emitting was like an old harley... Loud like a drum.. Not looking for that kind of sound :)

Decided to go with slip-ons instead of full-exhaust system..

Mostly hindle or Akra.. Liked the sound of M4 also but just worried that it shouldn't be too loud for touring.

Do we see any drop in mileage after changing the exhaust? I am more than happy with the speed and acceleration but don't want to compromise on mileage.

What do we loose in slip-ons as compared to full-exhaust system?

Slip-on is for weight reduction and sound, not for performance. I haven't observed any reduction in gas mileage after I installed the slip-ons. Full system will provide you additional weight reduction and performance improvements but requires Power Commander or ECU mod. There are many threads here so you can search. I wish I could get a full system but the total cost (for me) was too much.

"Do we see any drop in mileage after changing the exhaust?"

This is a good question, when I first got my bike, the needle took for ever to move from full it
seems like, I got the slip ons soon after and the needle sure seemed to move more !!

Maybe the "float" in the gas tank was stuck a little from being new ? The gel as it said to be ?

Ok cool.. if mileage is not getting affected then i will stick to my decision of installing the slip-ons.

Thx oldman and carabuser.
