turns over...no start
11/07/09 6:32 AM

New to the site. Pulled her out of the garage this morning and no start! Turns over smoothly. Checked battery voltage at 11.8v. Is this not sufficient for the fuel pump? This is the original battery. I've had her for 3yrs and 16k flawless miles. Any ideas guys??? Thanks

tszczk:

When you turned the key on did you hear the fuel pump do it's thing for a few seconds?

Does she have a Power Commander installed? If so, check and perhaps re-seat the ground wire for it.

Thanks for the inputs. Battery doesn't appear to be the issue and gas is fresh. I ride almost every weekend. And yes, the fuel pump is activating when the ignition is initially turned on. I gave up and had my mechanic come pick her up. Peliminary diagnosis indicates no spark and they're still checking her out and will update me.

My busa battery is coming up on 6 years old and going strong. The last few years tho I've kept it on a battery maintainer when I'm not riding

UPDATE: Talked to my mechanic today and the problem was a bad fuel pump. I also went with a new battery and front tire while she's in the shop. Merry Xmas early to myself!! Thanks again for the responses I received. Great site!!!

Hub, I usually ride until the "low fuel" indicater and then some, but will most likely fill up sooner. You bring up a valid point which might potentially contribute to premature failure of the pump.

Hub; whether you're right or wrong, you never cease to amaze me! Now I have an argument to throw at the wife as to why she shouldn't let the tank get to 1/10th full all the time. I hate having to fill up every time I use the car!
