New to Me 2012
12/16/17 5:06 PM

Bought a 2012 ZX14R (aka Mad Max), 6K miles from the 2nd owner in Prescott, AZ. We met half way in Payson and the bike run great back the 90 miles to home. The photos aren't great. It is next to our 2006 ZX14 (aka Blue Max). It has a few extras, but 1st thing is a set of S21 tires.

Best Regards.......George

Thanks guys. These are actually the 2nd and 3rd Fourteens I have owned. The 1st was red and one of the first six delivered to Arizona dealers when the fourteen was introduced. It went down the road to the 2nd owner with 30K+ miles when I liquidated 4 other bikes for financial reasons about 9 years ago. I have about 5K miles on the blue 06' with Hypersport S21 tires and help from Dave Moss on setting up the suspension, it is about perfect just waiting for possibly an Ivan's flash and get it on the dyno. Although I only have 90 miles on the 14R, during the ride home from purchase yesterday, I'm already liking it a whole lot!!

Congrats on the new bike.

I have the S21's on my 14 and also use them on my zx10 for track days.
Great performing tire at a great price.

Thank You piken. I haven't had them on that long, coming up on 3K miles, just starting to get a center line flat. When solo (150# with gear) I run 36 psi front, 38 psi rear. With the wife aboard (she adds 125#) 38/40. When running the tighter turns solo I have lowered them to 35/36 and that seems to work well. How about you, what pressure have you found that you like? Actually I'm impressed on the wear, as I was surprised that I already have 3K on them for the little wear they are showing.

Sounds like you are spot on for pressures.
I'm 220# suited. Hey wait, I lost some weight, make that 215# suited!

I run....
36/36 around town and most riding
34/34 canyon runs

On the track with the zx10 I run 30/30

My goal cold vs hot is a 3-4 psi raise on the street, 4-5 psi raise canyons and 6 psi track

These have been working great for me.

piken, Thank You for the tire feedback. It's good to hear you are running well with a little less pressure. The cold has set in for this year up here in the north, so in the spring I will try taking out a couple more pounds. Should I assume you are running the S21 on your zx10?

I took a 9 year break from riding and got back on this past February. During that time (I'm now approaching 72) my vision went to shit, my timing went to shit and my balls have apparently shrunk!!!! I doubt I will ever get all the chicken strip off the tires again, but I would rather have sticky tires at the cost of less miles.

The cold has set in for this year up here in the north,

We go for rides up that way in the mountains, but probably not until spring now.
Mostly go up to Prescott, Payson and back down to Phx. But also up through SRC.

Should I assume you are running the S21 on your zx10?

Yes, makes a real good track tire too. I've tried a lot of different tires on the
track and this is now my go to tire.

I would rather have sticky tires at the cost of less miles.

I couldn't agree more.
