1st oil change at the house..
08/26/16 12:11 PM

Ordered the Kawasaki 008 filter @ Amazon...bought the Rotella 15W40 non syn.@ Walmart...think all together $29. If ur wondering ,yes I'm cheap...pinch pennies so I can spend dollars. Besides the dealer gives the bike a full insp.and ride before purchase that I paid for so nothing gonna change in 600 mi. I can't adjust myself...their charge is close to $200 cause I already asked and was also told if I keep my receipts I'm ok.
So far I'm loving the bike...rides similar to a Goldwing but on steroids. Profile of the rear tire I'm reading is the cause of its slow heavy feel in the bends...593 lbs.but feels much heavier...save some more pennies n swap it out for a 55 profile. Also I used a can opener and disassembled the filter, took about 25 turns before it separated but wanted to unfold the stiff paper like filter....lots of metal particles...I had reported earlier about oil coming out of the tube from the air cleaner box but that ended after the first 100 miles. Ride safe

Get your suspension set up properly. The 14 can handle like a tank if it's set too soft. The 55 tire will also help.

Thks...suspension was one of the first things I did after reading the owners manual...went on line and used the figures they had at a sight that makes suggestions for numerous bikes...seems fine now,was close to recommendations.watched tons of videos on utube for a multitude of subjects.. When it comes to the drag strip you need a lot of extra h/p to win at the bottom of the track...watched one video where an older version 1 stock 2009 beat a 2012 with a bunch of stuff done...mostly from being a better rider..kept his bike moving down the track instead of doing wheelies n out of control...just saying...my goal is to do some spirited riding and keep from tearing this bike up and me as well.

I also have the 2016 SE and have come to really like the color. My other bikes have always been black when I bought them or shortly thereafter. That dark gray was as close as I could get on a new ZX-14. I black Plasti-dipped the heel guards and it looks much better. The black 2 Brothers CF cans look good and sound great. Totally agree with the hefty insurance, it costs more than the total for my other 4 bikes but it's definitely worth it!

I just go with liability on both my bikes. If I went with full coverage on both that would have been the price of a new bike after 5 years. I don't have a new bike so obviously, I can't afford full coverage. Anyway, I always felt if I wreck the bike bad enough that I can't fix it, it's time for a new bike anyway...or else I should quit riding.

hoghead,

There are a few people on this forum who know enough about the 14R suspension to help you get it close to dialed in.

My 2014 handles great now that I've got its dialed in for the street and track, very easy to turn. If you give us some info such as weight, height, riding style, street/track or cruise that would help. And as Mad has said, get a pro who knows the 14R to help, its absolutely the best first money spent on this monster.

Personally, I'd have a whack at doing your ownsuspension first. I have a tutorial on that that might help you though the gen2 has different increments for suspension settings than the gen1. You get your sag right and the rest is common sense.

I would also attempt to adjust suspension yourself, you need someone to help you but it's not that hard

getting it set up properly for your weight makes a big difference in how it handles, obviously

I think when they come stock they are set for someone about 180 pounds, way too soft for most of us grown men. Lol

185 Lb. here...double bubble screen came sat.as well as frame sliders...rubber caps to cover all the bigger bolt holes is coming today. Rear stand installed last week...about decided on exhaust but having second thoughts.I have had a bunch of loud bikes, sometimes way to load...but now being older I'm liking the peace and quiet of the all but silent factory exhaust. It makes me feel like Captain Kirk on the Starship Enterprise and telling the engine room to give me everything you got Scotty going into warp drive...just a silent swish n ur gone....maybe start a new fad, quiet motorcycles...don't think it's gonna catch on thou...too much testosterone out there in the Galaxy .

About 215 lb here. I have not changed the factory suspension settings and handling is as good or better the my CBRXXs. I have the Delkevic 12 or 14 inch ovals and they are a fairly quiet and much quieter than the Dan Motos (Dan Moto didn't have CF slip-ons for the 2016 ZX14) I had on the XX. This 2016 SE ABS is truly a great machine....and this coming from a 50 year Honda guy. Before my last 3 XXs, was a Hurricane 1,000 and many more Hondas before that. I've been toiling over leavng the XX and going with the ZX14 for years. Glad I did.

I changed my oil myself also. It's pathetic how much the local Kawasaki shop wants for such a simple task

Plus when you are done, you know the oil have been drained completely, new filter, correct oil added, etc... The most difficult part for me is getting rid of the used oil...

Carabusa..love that stripped down bike...totally awesome. Makes me what to tip mine over so I'd have to throw away the plastic and go naked...I don't care whether you own a busa or a 14 they all are kinda ugly...imho...Naked rules in my book. But getting back to reality the 14 is the smoothest riding most balanced crotch rocket on the planet....thats why we all buy them and keep on coming back....and right now I like mine quiet and quick....no flashes necessary..thank you !! I tend to get a little crazy on the interstate in the evenings coming back from a dance and pray the state police have reached their quota and are chilling at Dunkin Donuts ...ya'all ride safe out there in the wild.
