Single exhaust. Is it worth it over duals?
02/16/17 11:37 AM

Been thinking of getting a newer zx14 and was wanting to know if going single exhaust instead of dual exhaust was a good idea and who has done it.

Worth it in what way? What are your goals?

Weight savings?
Outright power?
Looks?

Honestly, all the full systems dyno close enough together that at the end of the day most of us don't have the ability to discern any real difference. Go with what looks/sounds best for you.

On my first 14R I had a Brock's CT Meg full ti system. Maximum weight savings, looked clean, loud as hell, great dyno numbers. When I bought my second 14R, I went with the Brock's dual CT full ti system. For about $1000 more, I got 3 hp extra. Still worth it for the visual appeal and knowledge that I bought the best, but in all reality the difference was superfluous.

Pics and dynos for reference:

I did a full Yosh single sided on mine in October. Looks IMHO is better, access to chain for cleaning is better, and its cheaper overall. Example, Revzilla will sell you one for $1050 USD shipped

At first I went with dual slips because I liked the look of the dual. After a season of that, I then went to a single sided exhaust. Had the ecu retuned and I love it better. Takes a bit to get used to. But IMO, well worth it. I went with M4. Awesome sound. Awesome performance. Cheaper than the rest.

On your single sided you said it took a bit to get use to. What do you mean? Contemplating buying this new 2016 SE with ABS for $10.9k. Use to R1s so this is all new to me.

You may want to check with Dyno-jet before your purchase. When I started a new build in September they didn't have a PCV available for the 2016. When they told me they "thought" they'd have one by January I opted for a 2015 left over.

I think its all aesthetics at this point. To me, the shorter Brocks and M4 exhausts look odd on the 14. The tail section is so long, that I think a more traditional length exhaust like the Yosh or Akro dingle sided (or dual) looks better

Visually it take a bit to get used to. I really liked the look of the dual exhaust. So going to a single sided one throws it off when looking at it. But eventually I got used to it and now I love the way it looks. Power and sound is amazing!

yeah,i like a single sided exhaust.being able to get to the rear sprocket for rr or cleaning chain and such, yep.less weight naturally.more low end...not sure about that, but i think it helps.pretty sure i read like on brock's site it did add a bit of 'punch'.i like mine for sure.
