Possibly a mistaken identity? Looks a lot like the Hayabusa's stock damper which is located below the triple tree. The busa's damper is very nice. Never know it's there. It activates only by severe inputs. I have no plans of going aftermarket with this part on my busa. If they made one for the 14, I'd definitely consider it. Only drawback is that it is totallly without bling being hidden up in the cowling.

Thanks Rook, it does look like the hayabusa piece. I wonder just how long it will take for Kawi to put one on the 14?
I like the way the damper mounts on the busa, the lower the center of gravity the easier the bike will launch.

It doesn't look excatly the same but close. You can't always tell by the pic though. Sometimes a similar part is shown to represent the actual thing you are buying. Maybe it is a gsxr stock damper in the pic and a busa damper is what they are selling. Never heard of a stock damper for a 14 though.

Instead of a $700 new ohlins/brock setup I wonder how hard a gsxr or similar damper would be to install in the stock hayabusa location?
Any reason this wouldn't work? They are so cheap I might have to buy a used one just to try it out...

G'Day Cool.
Although a steering damper isn't really necessary on a 14 due to their inherently designed stability, I run one just in case when at those "higher end" speeds.
However if you decide to install one, you will definitely get what you pay for.
Pay for quality and you know you are good. Pay for cheaper unknown quality and all may be okay but you never really know for sure till its unfortunately too late.
Just my opinion, but compromise is not an option when it comes to safety.

I can't exactly remember how my busa's damper is attached but it's under the top fork clamp. I don't see why you couldn't attach to the 14 if you could weld or drill some mounts. The gsxr1000 damper is activated electronically so that would be your problem--the 14's ECU was not made to control a steering damper. i thought the busa was also electronic but I can't find that online.

I've only heard of one or two people that seemed to think a damper would help, but since they are mandatory for mile racing I need to add one. I have a custom ohlins damper on the zx10, but after reading more it seems that money could be better spent elsewhere.

Yes, a steering damper is cool but probably one of the lower priority mods IMO. If you get the front up, you will notice a difference with/out a damper but it isn't a dramatic difference since the 14 is very stable without.
