Wonderful Winter Weather Thread
12/31/17 4:39 PM

One of the most stressing things about riding in the winter is deciding which jacket to wear. In the morning when its really cold, like 55, should I go with the Vanson Mark 2 Challenger with the vent panels that zip down for the afternoon or tough it out with the Vanson full properf? IDK ..it's so stressful.

Anyway, I decided to think about it until tomorrow and ride out to see the local legend of a gunsmith who just called and said my ParaOrdence P14 and Springfield 1911 SS trigger jobs were done and ready to pickup. I decided to take Reagan down to the beach for a run instead.

I'll post more pic's on New Year's Day of the BBW to make it an official 14R thread.

2018 is gonna be a great year!

12 months out of the year is the same riding gear so no stress decisions here:
1. Redwing steel tipped work boots (just past the ankles style).
2. Redwing socks (long and covers the calf).
3. Sweat pants.
4. Long sleeve shirt.
5. Custom made leather jacket (extra long arms) by Z-Leathers (he lives a town or two away from you).
6. Farmer type overalls (so I can remove those and wear the sweats and long sleeve) when not riding.
7. Over sized Levi jacket.
8. Gauntlet gloves by Bates.
9. Full face helmet.
10. Show me the road (so I can start cooling off in this getup).
11. Dressed daily for the crash not the weather.

Redondo is not far at all. Where's the best fish restaurant in town? I'll buy lunch. My blood count is low on vitamin D. So any excuse for fish.

We must have the same doctor; got a call last week that my recent blood work show I have a vitamin D deficiency. Now I am taking one 50,000 IU capsule every week. If you're buying, I'm in!

What a drag it is getting old.....

It must be rough. I'm going to have to get a snowmobile and do 160 across a lake to fight back.

55? That would be full mesh textile over a tee-shirt to keep from overheating. Kidding, probably put the fleece liner in.
Happy New Year Rudy. Enjoy the beach and your pup.

In the morning when its really cold, like 55,

It's 9:23 AM EST and it's 66 degrees right now. That's cold to me, so I'll put a liner under my mesh jacket on cold days like this.

The overnight low was 23*, but this afternoon it will be in the 60's and time to ride. Long sleeve t-shirt, sweatshirt, Freeze-out thermal pull over and the red, white and black Joe Rocket with liner......I know, I'm such a sissy!

I don't mind not riding so much, I just wish it was warm enough to work on the bike.

Hub, the local spot which has been here forever is Captain Kids, order from the fresh section and they will cook it as you like while you sip a hot coffee or for Rook a Cold Beer.

About 200 yds south on the pier is Kincaid's - high end and nice but good food, I prefer Capt'n Kids for the "ambience" and if you choose you can smash crabs with a hammer!

Kinda cloudy today but nice

A bit further south at RAT beach

Just in case anyone wants to get the hell out of Dodge and the -17 F this winter a few references:
This one will rent you whatever you need and you can act like Cruz on a Ducacci for the day in LA

And if you want to rent a Lambo and hang out with the Hub and Jay at the Rock Store and watch Hub shred the Snake you get whatever you need here at Drive 3 including a Ducacci or an R6 (or a turbo Ferrari)

Or there is an Eagle Ryder very close to LAX

That would be 200 well spent dollars to convince me once and for all I don't want a Ducacci. That 1199 is awful damn good looking though.

Sure looks nice, rudy. They like artists in Cali. Maybe I'll go there and stay. I'm too old to worry much about it breaking off and floating into the ocean anymore.

Got a little ride in today out to Bartlett Lake.

First ride of the new year. Was in the 70's

Nice road to the lake, good combo of tight twisties,
high speed sweepers and great scenery.

Nice shot Piken, I love the Desert. Its really an extra special place when the wind is down and the temps are nice and warm in the winter. Looks like a great day!

Got a little ride in today out to Bartlett Lake.

I used to live in Phoenix back in the mid 90's for a brief period. Beautiful scenery, but I remember sand could sometimes be on the roads pretty bad, so you had to be really careful around those curves--and let's don't forget those deer-sized rabbits out in the desert.

You guys are funny, 55F = no liner & nice weather.

After 3 weeks of unseasonably warm weather it got a wee bit cold here, would have had the bike out during the beginning of December but there's too much gravel everywhere for my liking.

Funny news story related to the temps in Calgary:

https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2017/12/31/calgary-zoo-decides-its-too-cold-outside-for-penguins.html

Not mentioned in the story, -25C was the HIGH for several days, lowest I saw was -38C (not including the windchill)

Nope. He just remembers what it feels like to get skinned up on the pavement. Sounds like he's relaxed a little going to overalls instead of leathers.
