Thinking of buying a blue 2012 zx14
02/11/17 2:32 PM

I told myself if I didn't get a Polaris SLR I would get a zx14... all my gear is blue from my previous blue R1. So started looking at 2012 models.. are there any changes from that year and now?

Keep in mind not all '13s had ABS. It was a factory installed option. If you want an ABS bike and are looking at a '13 verify beyond any doubts it has ABS.

Is the ABS worth it? I'm 240lb but use to R1s.. wondering if it's a huge difference in riding this and heavy and awkward to move around.

ABS absolutely yes!
it may save your life one day...

in terms of riding experience, having had a Ninja 650 and a Ninja 1000, i must say the ZX14 is amazingly nimble, considering the weight
great behavior in twisties, when compared to the other two bikes...

I haven't had any issues moving my 14 around. I've even ran her dry a couple times and have had to walk it a block or two to the pump.

As far as ABS there's probably no real reason not to. Statistically ABS reduces insurance claims for motorcyclist .2%. Not 2%. 2 tenths of a percent. If you're a wet weather rider by all means get ABS. If you're not, or you find a 14 and it doesn't have ABS and you like it... go for it.

Mine doesn't have ABS btw. Over 20k miles on her.

I have been riding with ABS for some years now and question my purchasing the 07 ZX14 without ABS> Twice in the last week or so I have dragged the back wheel ,so far, fortunately at low speed.I have two other bikes with ABS and find I have another unneeded issue when I hop on the 14. Mixing the two is probably not a good idea.

Blue uniform = Color is not built to make it safe.
Blue bike = Takes a rider to not need ABS.
ABS bike = Color does not stop the bike safely.

The blue '12 model year are the least powerful of all the Gen 2 color schemes.

You couldn't give me a blue '12.

"The blue '12 model year are the least powerful of all the Gen 2 color schemes."
This is correct.
In the Gen 2 range, Hag and all know black gives superior power by far.

My 2012 Blue ninja has the poorest rear brake of my 3 bikes. The rear brake is only good to hold the Bike at a stop.
It is just as fast as the Green Bike. I didn't see any of you in Glacier Park or Yellowstone last year. Who needs ABS?, just more maintenance problems.
