Help deciding on pipes
10/23/10 8:31 AM

Guys this is so vague I almost resist posting it; but I suspect some good suggestions are out there...

My 2007 ZX has big slip on dual cans from the previous owner, I'm a minimalist guy by nature, its the one thing that detracts from this bikes profile IMHO. I've always been happy with the performance numbers (2 up in the back, PC, flies being removed tuesday), but dual massive cans just give this the look of the hot girl saddled with too much in the trunk...

Now I'm a good neighbor and really don't want to ruin our children's hearing or scare the Smiths each morning,

So from megaphone minimalist to some sanity in decibels at a fair price and quality with at least performance neutrality (at worst), can anyone suggest pointing me in the direction of a exhaust solution for in-between full on drag and not getting my friend and county sheriff-next-door-neighbor writing me a warning...

Thanks all,

Drew

I've got TiForce high mount slip ons.Very lite(5 lbs each). They are duals however.Nice low (deep)idle sound. They will bark if opened up rapidly, but they're quite bearable all other times.Performance gain?IDK...kinda hard to actually tell with Flies out...4 degree advance,16/42 gearing.I've never heard them "away" from my bike...so I honestly can't say how they really sound from any distance.

The Competition Werks GP slip on (shorter version) looks like the ticket. Says HP gains and shedding weight is a high probability over these cans...

Thanks!

I'm a big fan of the Akrapovic pipes. I have no idea what they cost I have a full system and it give a great sound and crazy power. I live in very nice neighborhood who don't like loud cars or bikes up and down the street.

All I'm saying is look in to them..

Call Kerry Bryant at Area P. Call him and ask for a "custom local sheriff model." He'll make it to your warning ticket specs. Tell him the hub sent ya. He doesn't know me from adam. Just tell him LOL.

Before you make any decisions, be sure to check Brock's Performance.

There are very good reasons why. All other things equal, the CT-Dual titanium exhaust system makes more horsepower and torgue all through the usuable range than does an Akrapovic system.

Plus, Brock's not only dynos (and posts on the web site) their products (and sometimes, competing products for comparison), they race them as well.

Bikes built by Brock's hold national drag records, and are just starting to show some success in AMA roadracing and such. Plus, Bill Warner recently ran 278.6 mph at the Texas Mile with a (gag) Hyabusa (in name only) that Brock's had a role in tuning and modifying.

And of course, it is winter now, so prices are coming down. Look at the prices in January, is my guess.

For sound, performance and price you can't beat yoshi. I'm into performance without the loud, and am VERY happy with the R-22 system on my red LE busa. Looks extremely good, great quality, very light, and sounds nice and quiet till you really get on it, and made a BIG performance gain. Plus I picked it up on a screaming sale Like I said tho I like quiet So this system might not be for everybody. And I'm not sure how well yoshi's work on 14's either, since I'm putting a turbo on mine But if I wasn't, I'd prolly have a yoshi system on it as well, because like I said......I like quiet with my lighter weight and performance lol.

See, he was more a minimalist and a good neighbor. Where a Brock would be a pre-set to have all that good power without the pc and all the rest of the growing performance starting to pass the wallet up being minimal. No rejetting needed if she is still quiet. So, back and forth it goes keep making decisions you commit the bucks and then?

See if you can still find some Micron slip-ons. Very good quality and not real loud!

Microns will discolor. If ya like that "heat treated look"...ya...they're good.Blue and Gold bands of heat coloring. Not for anyone who might want a solid titanium or chrome look.

I've heard good things about "Staintunes"...they're Australian I think.Look very close to stock design, but without the weight.I had em on my Harley way back when...talk about BARK.Geez...when I heard a guy test ride my bike..and open er up...I really didn't recognize it as being my bike.Deepest,LOUDEST and most powerful sounding exhaust I'd EVER heard on a Harley...no bull. But at idle and such, they sounded quite good and "mellow".It really was amazing to hear MY bike sounding like THAT...I had NO idea.

I have not seen that problem with my titanium, Its been on there since 07 and still looks like the day I bought it. The can your talking about came from the factory with that scorched look and looked way cool on a blue bike. Blue the guy wants something quiet not the deepest LOUDEST most powerful sounding exhaust you can buy! But that works for me.
