snakes are cool!

The action is done at about 1:30 but my families conversation in the car is so funny (at least I think so) I just had to leave it in.

I love snakes and all reptiles. The common Gopher snake we have out here looks very similar. I'm glad your family respects them.
Snakes and other animals today have it tough. No matter which way they go, there's bound to be a road to cross. I've actually seen snakes ran over by the edge or side of the road. I could tell by the snakes position and other signs that the car's driver actually swerved and went out of their way to hit the snake.
I hope I never see it happen. I'd be very inclined to do something about it.

In the last 20 years I've heard that air pollution is taking a big toll on frogs. I have seen a HUGE decrease in the # of frogs at my parents lake property during this time but that may only be do to the decrease in lake level. It has receded as much as 7 or 8 feet during some years and this is a very small lake with steep banked shoreline. It's encouraging to see a dramatic increase this year and I am sure that is from the huge amount of rainfall we've had. I've never seen so many frogs ever. Also, I have only seen a snake cross my path maybe twice in my 50 years but this summer, the big fox snake in the video and just yesterday the kids and I saw a large garter snake cross the hiking path in front of us. Also, I have NEVER seen a turtle walking across land. This summer, I have seen 3 and none of them were close to water. Two alligator snappers and a painted. All three were on the road. I actually ran just a few inches from that first big snapper on my busa because I thought it was a dead porcupine. I didn't even try to avoid it. The driver in front of me did pull to the side and get out, I presume to help Mr turtle across the road. They like to just sit there on the road with their neck stretched out of their shell pointed straight up at the sky. Hope that guy was able to find a big stick or something. LOL I wouldn't touch a snapper with my hands! I did stop and pick up the painted turtle and toss him in the grass. He ran away. The small snapping turtle I found judt last week, I captured with a box and the kids and I released him at a swamp/lake about a mile away. I'm sure he will have competition there (maybe that is where he came from) but he will have better odds of surviving there than he would here.

Also a fox in my neighborhood. She ran by every night yipping. I guess she must have finally gotten impregnated by some other fox.

Hey Rookster,

I promise you, do not play that game with the snakes in Australia!

Yeah, the animals in Australia don't tend to take a lot of shit off anyone or anything.
Even some of the very small f**kers can be quite nasty...

LOL around here, wolves and cougars are not threatened anymore but they are becoming a slight threat. I know lotsa people who have had their dogs and livestock killed. No attacks on humans yet but we did have a bear attack last spring. A cougar was found dead IN the friggin city last year!

Had a few reptiles at home. 6ft boa 13ft Burmese python, two 3+ ft iguanas, 2 savannah monitors, nile monitor and birds and a dog. One day the Savanna Monitor jumped up to bite my wife in the face and we donated all but the birds and the dog.

Some people are like slinkies. They're really not good for anything but they sure bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
