So close.. damnit

Went to the track saturday.. Still pump gas, still no PC, still no nitrous.

First pass of the trailer:
9.16 @ 149.60 1.491 60'
Second pass:
9.14 @ 148.46 1.479 60'
Third pass:
9.075 @ 149.52 1.432 60'
Fourth pass:
9.104 @ 149.37 1.425 60'
Fifth and final pass:
9.059 @ 149.40 1.420 60'

That 5th pass set a few personal bests for me. The 1.420 is my quickest 60'

330' was a 3.794 also the quickest and first time in the 3.70s.

1/8 mile was a 5.799, quickest and first time in the 5.70s

And i haven't looked at my other timeslips to know if my 1000' is a best.. Probably not though, as the bike wasnt building much MPH (need a piggy!)

How bout some tips on 60 footing this bike. I would love to see an instructional video!

6K at the line and then full throttle, with half clutch release?

How bout front suspension, how far up are the fork tubes in the clamps? How do you have the rear setup? Tire pressure?

bike is at 67" wheelbase.

front is lowered 3/4", and strapped (almost all the compression taken out of the forks with the strap)
Rear is lowering links set at -1 1/2"

I'm running a shinko u-soft tire at 14psi. 16/45 gearing

As for launch, 5500rpm. Clutch lever is on the brink of engagement (i actually have to hold the bike from pulling forward with my feet, you don't have to let out that much). Soon as the lights drop, so does the clutch. I'm not sliding the clutch at all, just letting the bike's torque do the work.

on a stock bike, of course thats not going to be reasonable.. You'll be laying on your back. LOL

You must have a pretty nice clutch setup then.

What would you suggest for a stock clutch weekend racer when it comes to getting the best 60 foot times, and running consistently into the 9's.

i ran a completely stock OEM clutch for a long time. lasted quite a while, had great feel and good grip..

Came up on a race and fried my clutch the weekend before. Kawi dealer said it would take over a week to get the steels and fibers in (still can't figure that out). Talked to my motor builder and he suggested a clutch kit from KG clutch factories. I had never heard of them, but he insisted i give them a try... Said one of his other customers has ran one for 3 seasons with absolutely no issues (i was using two sets of oem's in a season).

Bought a set, came with steels, fibers, and springs (stock clutch pull though). Cost a little over $200 if i remember right. Went ahead and ordered a set of steels and fibers just in case for backup.. Well i've had well over 60 passes on this set and they just keep getting better. I have no idea where you can find em, but if you can i definitely recommend trying a set. Feels just like a stock clutch, and has lasted longer then any OEM set i've had.

Sorry, i just re-read your question.. I thought you were asking about the clutch lol

it really depends on the bike's length and height, tire, and suspension. My bike is as basic as it gets.. if you're pretty well set up like me i'd suggest giving my method a try.

If the bike is a shorter wheelbase, do the same thing, except slide the clutch a bit. I was once told, you want to get the clutch fully disengaged and the throttle all the way open as early as possible. The longer you're holding on the clutch, the more time you're losing on the big end.

You may even try a 1500 rpm clutch dump. The bike might pop up for a second, but it shouldn't have the torque that low in the rpms to create a wheelie problem.

Good clutch info, thanks!

Im going to be trying a few different techniques, I got some good help last night from another zx14 rider, and a local motorcycle shop owner who was watching as I made a few passes.

I was told, lean as far forward as I can, basicly helmet touching the wind screen, hold at 4000, get the bike right at the point of engagement, and off the line roll on the throttle, and out with the clutch.

I was able to get a 1.9 60 foot, but I shifted too early because I was think about how cool it felt to get a good launch and how smooth it felt. I ran 3 10.5's and that was it for the night.

Hope to get back sunday and try to put it all together to get into that single digit run. Going to try and find a nice out of the way road to practice getting a 60 foot technique down.
