"I've owned many Beemers and loved them all. But they're different. Gonna be a bit of an adjustment from the 14R. Good luck with the RS.

Mal"
Thanks Mal. It sure is. Now having issues with the brand new RS. 4th and 5th gear feel like they're going to detonate . Dealer tells me this could be normal... :(

WOW!You ditched your ZX for a bimmer?Sorry to hear that.Reading your posts here, and the responses from Kaw...I gotta say...I think they were straight up with ya.It is possible that any air that developed in your fluid went rapidly up to that master and caused it to lose pressure like it did.It could occur.Obviously.I know you say 'they topped it off' and called it good...that unfortunately would not replace the line fluid.????At least you didn't wreck...well,you take care...enjoy that Beemer.

So am I. I loved the 14.
New Bimmer has broken down about ten times over the past week. Fly-by-wire throttle keeps failing, even though they replaced it. Scary in peak hour traffic when I'm left with no throttle. Almost as bad as no brakes!?

LOL I guess wait until you take it to a track day and cause a 5 bike pile up when the throttle spits up exiting a corner!!!

Most people NEVER change brake and clutch fluid until there's a problem. Now you know why you should follow the recommended change intervals.

Especially pay attention to fluid change intervals if the bike is stored outside and subject to weather. even if under cover. I've gotten amazing life out of brake fluid that's in a bike that's stored indoors but, a couple seasons outside and it turns into the thing it's absorbing, water.

Never in a million years would I go to a track day on fluid that had any time on it. I drag race so, it's less of an issue with a 1/4 mile of runoff and no requirement to haul it down at max. My serious buddies sometimes pull one of the front discs to save weight on grudge bikes. :0

I can't see it being a serious issue drag racing, unless maybe someone was running down back and forth literally non-stop (like both directions, runs seconds apart from each other). On a road course the brakes are going to get and stay hot. For a rider who's actually trying to run hard, no doubt their going to build up above average heat in their brake systems, throw in an extra 100 lbs for the bike and probably usually a little more weighty rider and now you're really going to expose some of the limitations of 14's stock brakes. Probably be fine but you'd definitely want your fluid to be tip top.

It's one reason people get away with such poor fluid changes in cars too. Generally we really don't use brakes enough during normal driving to cause them to heat up to the extent old fluids an issue. Maybe people in a lot of constant stop and go for hours, or people who live up in mountains or hill terrain require prolonged brake application.

But even with drag racing I think a once a season change is probably adquate but should never be done using 2+ year old fluid.
