Speaking of the length of time since AIDS was actually big news, I hear that contracting HIV between members of the geriatric set is starting to be a real issue.

Remember, we cannot tell by looking at someone and know if they are HIV. Lots of people have been carrying this infection for years without symptoms. Doctors not always test older people because they don't think they are at risk. And during some routine check ups doctors may miss some cases of infection because they mistake signs of HIV/AIDS with the aches and pains of normal aging.

Another reason we see an increase in HIV infection in older adults, is because HIV new treatment has significantly prolonged life expectancy. Older people are still sexually active and refuse to wear condoms. Almost one-fourth of all people with HIV/AIDS in this country are age 50 and older.

This funny episode of the TV show SCRUBS talks about signs and symptoms misdiagnosis, and how the elderly gets Std's.

Me too. I'm a bit of an artiste myself but have not been faithful to the calling over the past few years (need to do something about that right quick).
