New ZX14 owner in Northern Ontario, Canada
07/05/13 3:33 PM

Hey, I guess I’ll start off with a little introduction,
My name is Derek, I live in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. I work as a miner 21 hours north of here. I'm new to the site, but not bikes. I've had many bikes in my life. Mainly off-road, but in the last couple years, I have been venturing into on-road bikes. Had a few 600cc, 750cc, 900cc and a ZX1000 “Crotch rockets”. I figured it was time to join the big boys club and get the ZX14. Picked up a 06 ZX14R about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have put on about 3500KM in the 2 weeks and loved every second of it. Longest day trip so far was about 870KM with minimal issues(Building up the saddle sores for my long trips(Getting used to a new seat)). I am planning on driving the bike to work on my rotations. 1900KM 1 way. Only stops will be for gas and food. I'll post pix of the bike when I get a chance.
I am also having a minor low RPM power issue in 1st gear on takeoffs. I have been searching this website and a few other ZX14 sites with no successful results. I did find one post with a similar issue, but not the same. I'll post a link to the problem I’m having after I start the thread in the proper section.

Welcome, I think I saw that bike for sale in Sudbury, the ad said it was owned by a fire chief. I remember the red bike and seat.
Riding up to Radisson early August, keep an eye out for you.

Just noticed the klr in the shot. I just picked up some Jesse bags for mine and have some soft bag side racks if you are interested...and the engine guard/highway pegs thingy as well.

Tonight is my last night shift, then fly home right after work in the AM to pick up my bike from getting a new set of tires on it. At work I get limited internet time. 12 hour hard labour shifts underground just makes me want to drink a beer and sleep when I get off work. =P When I bought the bike I took it to the “Stealership”. I told them I just got the bike and no idea what it had for previous maintenance(The fire chief that owned it before me said he did all the maintenance, but misplaced the paperwork). So Asked the dealership to start with a oil change, air filter, Valve adjustment, check all fluids and finish off the day with a certification. First thing the service guy told me was this bike will never need a valve adjustment...ever! It kind of threw me off...but I accepted the answer because it was from the dealership.

Yes, the bike is the one the fire chief had. I have a few friends that know him personally, and they told me the bike was never abused and over maintained. Good to know it was broken in properly with good maintenance. Now only if the bike new the abuse it has in it's near future. =P

The KLR is my baby, I have owned that bike forever. IT has only let me down 1X thanks to an inexperienced mechanic at the local dealership. I put a gun rack on it in hunting season, hard bags/Jerry cans Tent and sleeping bag on it when I bush road tour. I've rolled the odometer over on it and am back at 22,000KM with only one top end rebuild(When the dealership messed up) If you are looking to get rid of the soft bag mounts and have a price in mind, PM me the price and we'll see if we can figure something out.

Ya the klr is one hell of a donkey, I have a 685 kit and one extra tooth on the rear, way too much fun, can't ever see selling it.
These are the racks...

This is the engine guard/highway peg thingy.....

Been a few years, so thought id give a little update. my bike broke 50,000 KM at the end of last summer when I was on my way home from New York. Went to New York for 2 weeks. few weeks before that I went to Newfoundland, Novia Scotia and New Brunswick for 2 weeks. last night I took my bike out of the basement and brought her in the garage for preseason maintenance. Oil change, Sparkplugs, a sponge bath and new exhaust. but after a few wobbly pops and 1/2 a bottle of "Oban Scotch" between 3 of us it was decided the woodstove wasn't cutting it for the aromatherapy.

not sure how to add the link so you can see the vid here...so here's the link
Your text to link here...

Ill be planning a trip out to the west coast this summer for a few weeks. I might leave the bike at a buddies or family members, fly back to work then fly back to the bike to get a few solid weeks out west. My plan is to ride across Canada to British Columbia. might venture into Alaska(still in debates) then head south to California and check out some of the sites the U.S.A has to offer. a must for me will be "Tail Of The Dragon". if I remember ill keep you all posted. perhaps meet a few people along my travel's.
