Well, the scary part of the Rostra electronic cruise control installation is over, successfully completed.
Had to drill a 5/32" hole in the throttle arm that the choke uses to push on when engine is cold. This is the attachment point for the servo cable because it makes it easy on the actuator, lots of leverage out at the end of the arm.
Could just barely get a 6" cobalt titanium bit past the frame brace (and even with electricians tape on it, still buggered it slightly - nothing paint won't fix) and had to stop/start nibble at it until I had a clean hole started.
So thats done, and the hole is centered top to bottom as it needed to be.
I'm glad I have a machinist's background, or that could have been a disaster.
All the rest now is cake. I had to buy some 2,000 degree aluminum heat shields because I have to put the actuator up beside the left header tube. Not real close, but close enough I don't want to take any chances. So I put the main 5" x 7" shield on the back (header side) of the actuator, then used the sheet of self-adhesive heat shield material (aluminum based also) to cover most of the actuator, which will hold the main shield on.
I doubt if the actuator will get over 100 degrees inside, which won't phase it.
Should be able to get it all hooked up by the end of the coming weekend. I decided to order the CCS switch pad (with the control buttons and LEDS on it) that has an Engage light on it. What came in the kit doesn't have one.
That should be here in a day or two. While I'm hooking wires to the accessory leads under the front and rear boots, I'll hook in the Dispatch 1 (electronic fuse box with remote) sense wire that tells it when the engine is running so it knows when its ok to power heated stuff and driving lights and horns, etc.
Looks like I'll get it all done in plenty of time to button her back up and start riding season.
And the cruise control will be welcome in May when my mc rides down to Deals Gap as we are slabbing it in order to fit the trip into 4 days. Looks like I'll get my Connie a Tail of the Dragon badge, even if my ZX14 never got the chance.
