2013 ZX4R SW Motech, Givi V35 and Scorpion Update
06/26/15 2:15 PM

In case anyone was wondering (as I was), turns out the 2006-2011 SW Motech Givi V35 Rack bolts right on to a 14R and with the Scorpion Serket slip-ons, there is no need to lower the exhaust. More pictures soon...

Waiting on a shot with the bags and pictures of the clearance. I just bought a leftover new 2013 in Pearl Metallic White and I want to put my existing Givi V35s on. I had a 2008 and upgraded.

I just put a set of Givi's with SW Motec racks on my 2012 with Yosh R-77's on it.
Bolted right up and clearance was no problem.
When I tried that combo on my 07 with Scorpion slip-ons, no go as the pipes were angled up in the rear.
Choice of slip ons here is important if you don't want to lower them.

Here are a few more pics, now with bags installed...

Love having the bags, these Givis are very well designed, nice sturdy latches etc. Also learned the following in case you have one of these helmets, all size Large. Arai Corsair and AGV Corsa (Pista) fit easily. AGV GP Tech fits, but you have to tilt the helmet and still muscle the latch a bit.

Plenty of clearance. Nice pics. Did you put heat shielding on the bottoms of the bags?

timomasalin - The cases look great, as does the whole bike. Would you remind revealing what the side cases with bracket cost you?

@squareman, yes, and the heat shields came with the bags

@extrapolator, the tab was as follows:
Racks from Twisted Throttle (.com) $322
Permanent mounting hardware from above $51 (vs stock quick release racks)
Bags retail for $521 from just about anywhere, got lucky and found a brand new set on Ebay for $399
Roughly 90 minutes of manual labor with tools, priceless!

One more step to go, having part of the lids painted red to match next week, will post pics once done, should look pretty good!

Hmmm...my Givi V35s didn't come with any heat shielding. Might have to see if I can find that separately.

No heat shields needed for the Bags. You are sporting Carbon Fiber mufflers.
If you think you have a heat issue, drop the mufflers a 1/2".

Warms my heart to see others equipping ZX-14s as sport-tourers and going places. It's a lot of motorcycle for Sunday-morning 100-milers and track days.

kixxit,
I followed another member's suggestion and used 650 V-strom luggage rack. I spent $40 for the Rack from EBay.

If you don't want Givi side luggage, a trunk is almost as convenient. And it gives a passenger true grab rails.
Search my name to see other photos.

timomasalin - You said you went with permanent mounting hardware from Twisted Throttle (vs stock quick release racks). Does 'quick release' refer to the cases quick releasing from the mounting brackets? Or does it refer to the brackets themselves quick releasing off the bike? Cost more? Less secure?

Sorry for the noob questions.

@extrapolator
The SW Motech racks (great, sturdy product by the way) come with quick releases so you can take the brackets off. The Givis themselves come off with a key twist and a push of button. I have no intention of really ever taking the bags off, so I opted for the hard bolt kit for the brackets. You can still take them on/off in about 20 minutes if so inclined.

Thank you! I'm looking at Twisted Throttle's site but don't see the racks ... yet. Are the quick release racks more expensive? Did you think they might not be as secure on the bike? I'd like the option of removing the racks quickly when removing the side cases.

Edit: I see now, based on what you said originally, that I had to search Twisted Throttle's site under the "ZX14R Ninja & ZZR1400 '06-'11" category, and then I see the SW-MOTECH Quick-Lock EVO Contour Sidecarrier For Kawasaki ZX14 / ZZR1400 '06-'11 to fit Givi V35 PLX Sidecases only for $322.95.

Is this the quick release version of the side case racks?

The options drop-down menu has only a $51.95 "hard-bolt kit", and I don't know what that is.

@extrapolator

Yep, you want the 2006-2011 racks made for the "contour" version. Those racks apparently only work with the Givi V35 bags, but hug the bike a bit to keep the width down (still, you have to be careful lanesplitting so as not to collect mirrors).

The "Hard Bolt" kit is the mounting kit I bought, a bit more secure than the standard quick-release ones. Having had Givis on a few different bikes, I am happy to report these ones are really good. Nice size, great latch system. I only wish they were a tiny bit bigger because one of my helmets (AGV GP Tech) will not fit in easily. You really have to twist the helmet and lean on the bags to make it work, more a pain than it is worth. My other AGV, the Corsa and the Arai RX7 Corsair fit in just fine without any issues, all size L.

timomasalin - Lane splitting is not legal here in FL, and so I've never done it, not once, literally, and think I'd be too nervous to try it even withOUT the side cases!

Thanks again for responding to all my questions

@DoubleD

I've got the Givi V46 top case with the Motech plate already installed. I get back home this weekend so I'll be posting pix soon. I just wanted to get my HID's and my windscreen installed first. Has anyone seen a vid showing how to remove all the fairings? I saw a vid of an EXPLANATION on how to do it, but he didn't actually remove anything . I also need to install my mirror extenders. I've got a busy Sunday ahead of me provided I don't spend most of it riding!

[edit] I was also wanting to know if those grab rails are really worth changing my original setup over. Will they work with cold weather gloves? I do want to have a passenger 30% of the time.....

@Extrapolator I have over 80K miles between my old 2006 and my old 2008 ZX-14s with the SWMotech Quick Release racks and the Givi V35s. I've never had a single issue with them. They have never come loose or came off the racks as long as you make sure you put them ON right LOL! I'm been keeping an eye on this thread to see what I needed to do with my leftover new 2013, but I see I can still use the same hardware, so I'm good to go. I MAY want to add a top case, but I don't know if I want to lose the stock look, and I've been running with a tailbag for so long it's worked for me.
