Went riding today...

Now I know what the limiter feels like! GPS confirmed 186. Scary until 170, then eerily smooth (in a full tuck). App called GPS Speedometer, bike accelerates so fast had to hold a few secs before GPS caught up to top speed. Throttle was maxed out and bike still pulling steadily at limiter. I love clean, newly-paved desert highways! Rider in our group went down in Las Cruces, got brake-checked by cager and road had those massive bump/ruts in it that caught his tire at 20mph and he baseball slid face down 30yds behind his bike on the rubber and oil-slicked pavement. Rider OK, had all his gear on, bike needs replacement puck and shifter peg but untouched otherwise. Happened 10ft in front of me, older model gsxr600. Raced a built STi that drove along with us out and back, his limiter hit at 160. Amazing car, especially on the curves over the mountain pass. I backed off at 150 at 23 deg bank (thanks Diablo App), he pulled away after that (AWD + 9.5" tires). Fun and spirited ride, got a lot of comments on the bike. Just felt like sharing...

In 1985 I remember spending a night in Las Cruces, riding my old Z1-900 down interstate 10 heading west on my way to Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix AZ. New Mexico has some of the most beautiful scenery, and probably the best roads for speeding.

I remember in 1975 I had a new Z-1.I had a guy on the back and a guy on a XT 500 was behind us.I threw the Z into a left hander at about 90.Bike was wobbling so bad the guy behind me said he could see the bead seperating from the rim.Thats why they had 2 bead locks on the rear wheel. They should of called that bike the widowmaker not the H-2.

I don't like to carry passengers, but now I am shopping for a "buddy belt", lol Those bead locks on the tires were a must!

Runr, when riding in NM here's some places to mind your speed. I-10 west of Cruces to AZ, I-25 from T or C to Socorro, NM 84 north from Alamagordo to Corona, I-25 from Abq to Santa Fe, I-40 from Abq to Clines Corners, US70 from Vaughn 30 miles south, anywhere around Raton, I-40 from Route 66 to Gallup.

State police and NM MTP (DOT) have BMW bikes and love to stand on over passes with laser. In my experience, don't waste money on laser jammers or laser radar, by the time your detector goes off, you're already clocked.

Maybe shoulda posted this on the cops n crashes section but, also seems to fit here
