Which Seat?
07/03/11 9:01 PM

First ride >100 miles today & i have to say the seat is bearable, but not nirvana. What kinda sucess has anyone had with Sargent Corbin or Russell. Nice that Corbin has an optional backrest...passengers tend to like that peace of mind the a backrest gives over a grabrail, but i don't 2-up often & am mostly just interested in the most comfortable & economic (I got other mods to do, right!?) setup for the pilot.

I've got a sargeant and did a 5 hours trip this weekend no issues, my cheeks would give up after about 2 hours with the stocker. The sargeant has a little hump between the rider and passenger seat it helps a lot with staying put under hard acceleration.

I have a 2010 C14 Gel seat, and ride 6 hours from MD to upper NY without any problem at all. I just rode all the way from Mt. Snow Vermont to Hagerstown MD in 8 hours (counting stops) and my butt wasn't a problem. Heh.

I won't buy from Corbin because I will not buy from any company which has a "no returns, no refunds" policy.

Corbin

Highs:
-Best looks (IMO)
-Backrest for passenger comfort
-Best shape for allowing rider movement in the saddle
Lows:
-Heavy
-Foam is hard... ass gets sore on longrides

Sargent

Highs:
-Light weight
-Most comfortable seat EVER... sore ass will be a thing of the past
-Has "stash" compartment built in the pan
-Optional storage pod
Lows:
-Passenger seat is $optional$
-IMO, the "transition pad" (used to fill the gap when using factory cowl) looks TERRIBLE

New Image/Tobin

Highs:
-Comfortable enough for those 400 mile + days
-Best shape for holding the rider tight under hard launches
-Uses factory pan, so fit is great
Lows:
-Not quite as comfortable as the Sargent
-Not quite as good looking as the Corbin

Thanks all...especially the pics dogo! Man, these things are NEVER clear cut?! I like the Corbin backrest & it's easily removable (I think); I've had Sargent before & they have been all day comfortable (but their website for these seats gives me a headache) & the Tobin looks great with the stocker cowl. Let the dilemmas beging.

How do you think I ended up with 3?... lol

And just to confuse you more... Saddlemen is also making seats for the zx14 now.

Oh... the backrest on the Corbin is only held on with 1 allenhead screw. Easy to remove.

I vote for the Corbin because of looks and becuase I need the entire riders seat + a littl of the seat cowl (maybe just an inch) to sit on when i get into a really right tuck. The other two look like they would very diffiult to sit your a$$ way to the back.

I just had some back surgery, (a lower disc removed, replaced w/ a cage & my spine fused),
so I think that when I'm able to ride again, I'm going to go with a Sargent (solo) seat.

I agree with bsquared, Sargent's website isn't all that user friendly. lol

Dogo thanks for the pictures and your comments, very helpful; you helped me make my decision,
and btw, if you ever want to get rid of your Sargent seat let me know.......
