E-Bay blows

Yes, grandson, there was once this magical place where you could find wonderful things for really good prices. It was kind of like everyone was helping others and having fun auctioning off stuff they didn't need to people who did need it! I got some really good deals in those days.
But, just like a good fishing hole, the more people who discovered it the greedier they got and it became pretty well fished out. Most retail stores can undersell E-Bay prices, these days.

If that isn't bad enough...these brain trusts who run that circus decide to make things better for everybody. I haven't quite figured this one out yet but, somehow these new policies require that they hold my money, after I've made a sale, and even hold it a few days after it's been delivered. After years of trading on E-Bay I still haven't established myself as a solid merchant, because I don't sell enough things. What in the hell are they doing???
I guess they came up with this Idea so they could collect interest on millions of dollars, for a few days, after every sale.

Am I being stupid because I am insulted by this rip off. Is it smart business or greed?

I'm gonna miss E-Bay. They were a good resource even with the pricing problem.

Grn14; set up another checking account with paypal, and after it's verified, cancel the bank account. As long as you never use it, I always use credit card, they never check.

PayPal always sat on balances you asked to have transferred to your bank account for far too long. I've had a Premier account with a lot of sales for close to a decade or more.

Wow, I lost track of how long I've been using it, goes back to when I sold my Everquest accounts for thousands of dollars back in the day. My Cleric got me $3,200 and my Enchanter got me $2,800.

It took over a week to get the funds deposited in my bank account, despite the fact when PayPal wanted to charge me for a purchase they could debit my bank account instantly.

But what are you going to do? Its still about the safest way in the world to do online purchase and selling business. I've had a few people try to scam me over the years, like the kid that sent me a dead microprocessor module. He was doing that to lots of people. PayPal got my money out his bank account and refunded me. And one time I shipped a collectible lightsaber to someone and they tried to dispute the payment and PayPal concluded since the item had been delivered and the person wasn't asking to return it, the payment stood. And in a bit over a week it was in my bank account.

I know they make hundreds of thousands of dollars a day on interest holding our money. But I'd rather that than be scammed and lose my money.

When eBay purchased PayPal, I didn't really see much change in how PayPal worked.

Hi guys!!
The human mind is amazing. Many people use it constantly to figure out how to get their hands into someone elses pocket. I always used mine constantly to figure out how to get my hands into some woman's pants.
One place I did well with that was when I was in Columbia. The picking of pockets is a respectable art form in most Latino countries. Every gringo I met had had their pocket picked! I didn't. I guess I am just a little too formadible to mess with. LOL One time I was walking down the (crowded)street and these two little Colunbian guys bumped into me. I figured it was the old EL Distracto so I threw those little farts to the ground and spun around. There was noone behind me. The two guys walked off saying something about pinchy loco gringo...
I'd just like to know if this new policy of holding people's money was really for mutual protection or just a legal means to get their hand into my pocket. You guys think if I spin around there will be anyone behind me??

I just made an Ebay purchase because of the 12 month free financing offered by PayPal ONLY with an Ebay purchase (off Ebay, PayPal will give 6 month credit).

So the seller tells me Ebay walked away with 10% of his sale! Is that normal? I mean, I know Ebay has to make some money too but 10% on a large sale ads up to a hefty commission.

privateer can fill you in why, but here is Kofla, me, who knows who else, we no longer use ebay. Ebay goes public, the shareholders want to see a better year than last year or they see a company dropping the ball management wise or the fad wore off customer wise. Comp pops up and you call it craigslist. This begins to compete and this site takes no commission, nor charges to submit your worldly goods for sale. All money goes to you. So when that quarterly report comes out and the company ups the commission and/or pay more to place an ad, this temporarily boosts the books for so long and then it's so long ebay for ripping your goose's ass looking for more gold.

WELL, this sucks all around on my deal. The guy comes here to sell his suspension and I persuade him to put back on Ebay so I can get the 12 month credit. Then he finds he gets socked with a 10% Ebay cut + he has already shipped my OHLINS insured which cost us both an arm and a leg. So I will be paying the guy a couple hundred more $$ which put the OHLINS out of my budget. ..but WTF can I do now? Already took the leap. I'm not being a doushbag to this guy because I already got a nice deal. Still ends up being a nice price but mor ethan I could afford.
