I’m in deep

So, I pulled the ECU off and sent it to Guhl motorsports, I also have an exhaust system coming Tuesday. In preparation for the exhaust and ECU, I pulled the cowlings, radiator, and tank. I was expecting to find a removable air box and access to the AIS system like the gen 1’s. To my surprise, no removable air box. I can’t see how you get to the emissions and AIS system. How are you to eliminate the AIS and eliminate the air intake and eliminate the decel popping? I did my usual search in threads, YouTube and google but, I am not finding any “how-to’s” or DIY.

Looking for some insight please.

Like you I only removed stuff on the gen 1 however on my gen 2 with a flashed ecu and aftermarket exhaust I get no popping or backfiring. I believe its now removable thru the flash on gen 2's. someone with expert knowledge please chime in. I think you can hold off on removing stuff.

If the AIS is the same thing as the PAIR, that's on top of the valve cover. IDK if you can remove that from the gen2 without a code but you must be able to disable it for custom tuning. You can't get a true AFR with the PAIR working so I don't see how you would tune.

So, I pulled the ECU off and sent it to Guhl motorsports

1. You need the 02 system disabled. I'm sure he's doing this or you won't be able to toggle the dash for said selections of options in the owner's manual.
I was expecting to find a removable air box and access to the AIS system like the gen 1’s.

Nothing has changed. Let me take that back. PAIR (AIS) means the same thing so air induced into the muffler is the same for gen1, gen2. However, the 2013 and later use another hose for the idle assist, where the idle cable is eliminated. So when sitting on the bike, the hoses coming out of the top of the [lower] frame is: left hose = Idle... right hose = PAIR (AIS). Cork the PAIR hose, cork the lower frame hole so no dirty air enters the non-removal air box... which the air box is the frame more or less [for both gens].

To my surprise... I can’t see how you get to the emissions and AIS system.

Cabernet Sauvignon... cork
Merlot... cork
Pinot Noir... cork
Zinfandel... cork; all work to stop the flow of fresh air... your choice using one to insert into the black hose and frame. My goto is a cab for the frame and a merlot for the black hose.

How are you to eliminate the AIS and eliminate the air intake and eliminate the decel popping?

By installing the cork into the black hose, this eliminates 'fresh air' or say the AFR (air fuel ratio) turns rich and eliminates a lean condition>> we add more air and lean it out so it pops. If we do not refire the unspent = No pop-remains rich. Get it?

Sorry Rook and Suzy. Thank you for your input. I got the Ecu back from Guhl today and installed the new Brock’s exhaust system. Does anyone know if I need to install a loop back plug into the 02 sensor connector?

You need to install the O2 sensor into the pipe. If you don't it will flip a flag and display a code and will not run correct.

This is my understanding... Say the ECU has a program that can switch off the 02 (closed)loop and run open loop. You go to a muffler shop and buy a bung, or if the bung came with the pipe, close off the hole and unplug the 02 and find a drawer to store the 02 sensor in. Your dash should show no codes, plus you can toggle thru the program with the left switch and all that.

Hub,

So the Guhl reprogram accommodates the removal of the O2 sensor? Good to know

crude, I don't know this for a fact, I'm just assuming that if you can popup the programs, take note if the loops can be changed and you toggle/radio click the loop to off. In other words, the code would disable the dash if you just flat out disconnected the 02 w/out a flash. With the flash, I'm assuming the loop can be toggled off, the dash is still able to program thru.
