Question for slowninja or others with experience
04/13/10 10:46 AM

I still havent got to drag strip, as first date for us is in may...lol But I raced against my friends busa last weekend and destroyed him off line and through quarter. He then came back around me at a high speed cuz my bike isnt geared stock anymore.

My actual question is do i have too much stretch? I was shooting for +6, but ended up at about 8.5. My old factory tire after regearing would just spin and spin everytime I got on throttle. I then switched to a shinko ultra soft and thought this would take care of it. It was harder to spin, but can still spin. When i raced the busa, we both did a little warm up, reved up, and when third honk went gave it hell. My ass end kicked sideways as i launched, but stayed with it and eventually hooked up. Do you think its because my stretch too long? or cuz i didnt adjust rear suspension after extending it? Or is it cuz it was a country road and not a track? I dont want to spin on track day, so any advice would be great.

Here is a pic of the bike.

You'll be on warm tack if you stay in a car tire line. Street with 3 beeps is not 12lbs. of air pressure. Big difference. Yes, you can throw too much to the back tire. You want to load the clutch to where the wheel won't crack loose but bite in.

That tire now looks like one warm up spin and one pass left, you shake down an RPM launch.

yeah that tire long gone...lol It was factory tire, and it was spinning everytime i throttled. I put the shinko on now. But thats what I thought, the track will be a lot more sticky. Plus like you said I will run a lower tire pressure.

After launch, do you run the rpm's all the way out to redline? or do you shift before that? Just going to practice on street before I run down track.

Another question is do i need to stiffen rear spring because the tire is so far out now?

thanks HUB I do appreciate your input.

Track will be stickier then the street. For your setup i'd run about 18lbs in the shinko

You shift every gear at the same point. With the factory tach/shiftlight shoot for 10,600. That will give you room for error.

Also, thats an 06, correct? If your secondary flies are out, i'd suggest trying your launch at about 4000 rpm. A lot of people try launching at 8 or 9 and some get decent results.. But with the torque of the 14 you don't need to launch that high. Throw the clutch away at 4k and pin the throttle at the same time. Thats where i've gotten my best 60's
