Leatherup
02/02/15 3:19 PM

I ordered a jacket today and here is my impression so far.

1. Prior to placing my order, I called CS and asked for more details. A Hispanic lady answered the phone and she was either pleasant or unpleasant. It was a pretty short conversation anyway.
2. After I placed an order, I received a receipt and realized the ship to address is my house rather than my work. I used PayPal and the ship address with PayPal has always been my work.
3. I called Leatherup and asked them to change the shipping address. A guy answered the phone and told me "No we can't change the shipping address if you use PayPal". A funny thing is a receipt from PayPal shows my work address as the shipping address. I told him that but he kept saying he couldn't change.
4. He said "I could try to cancel your order and place a new order with your credit card. But there is no guarantee that I can cancel this order. I am willing to try, though."
5. Since I didn't want to receive 2 jackets. I told him to "forget it".
6. Then the guy told me to contact Fedex to hold the package at a nearby location once the tracking # is issued. I have tried it before with another on-line merchant but it didn't work (Fedex told me "certain shipment can't accept that")

I will keep you updated on their service and product in the next few days.

I ABSOLUTELY will NOT use Pay Pal EVER again, I have had nothing but problems from them. I paid for an event with Pay Pal that was cancelled due to the promoter having his head up his ass. Called Pay Pal and was basically told "to bad, so sad!!!" Called my credit card company and explained the situation to them, got my refund the NEXT day!!! Screw Pay Pal!!!

Received the jacket today. Model# CF-626 Black/Red/Gray jacket. Thanks to Carabuster's advise that Leatherup's jackets tend to be smaller. I ordered XL even though my current Firstgear jacket is size M. Shoulder is snug fit but little loose around my body. M, even L would have been too tight at the shoulder. I am 5-8 and 135lb butt naked. I like this jacket because the quality seems to be good and the shoulder and elbow protection is plastic not that high density form. The removable quilted liner is thinner than one on Firstgear and is NOT thinsulate. I will try this jacket once rain stops on the next Tuesday. About Leatherup, their service isn't too appealing. When I asked for the shipping address change, the service rep told me to contact Fedex, but as of now I still don't even have the tracking number. Their main objective is "never let customers cancel orders". Will I use Leatherup in the future? Probably, but I will make sure that what I order is what I want as cancelling an order seems to be a tough job.

Vic, you did see it on another site. I was REALLY pissed at the event promoter and PayPal.

The event promoter ripped off a LOT of people, cancelled the event with NO notice but yet kept the registration page open, continued to accept money, would not answer any emails, and made no offer of any refunds. I'm sure there were people who registered, paid, and probably showed up, only to find no event being held and no money back!!!

When I contacted PayPal they said they would have to "investigate" the matter. It was over a week before I heard back from PayPal that they would not make a refund and they were snotty about that. I called the company of the credit card I used and they were super nice, considered myself lucky! NO MORE Pay "and get screwed" Pal for me, EVER!!! Don't need "Pals" like that.

OK, so rain stopped and I rode in this morning wearing my new jacket. I found a couple of issues:

1. Sizing of this jacket is strange. Shoulder is snug fit but the collar is loose (well, this jacket is XL). As a result, the cold air (48 degree cold!!) comes in from the gap between collar and my neck. If I go down the size to Medium, I am certain I won't have this issue but then my shoulder would be too tight.

2. This jacket has no reflective tape of any sorts. So I need to attach something for night riding.

Overall, the jacket is pretty good. I paid $81 including S&H. I paid $240 for my Firstgear jacket in 2004. So I shouldn't complain (that is my wife says). For what I paid, this jacket is really good.

An update on the jacket. After one month ( well, actually about 20 days of commute (24 miles round trip) and two days of Hwy 35/9 riding (80 miles at a time), one portion of the jacket is already having loose thread. I guess cheap doesn't come with quality. I will have to fix it over the weekend.
