tight brake line on genmar risers, any easy fix?
05/01/09 6:40 PM

just installed the genmar risers on my 07.they are sweet but i'm worried the brake line might break cuz it's so tight, does genmar or anyone make a longer hose or maybe a longer bolt to put a washer between to ease tension? thanks

Fashion a small bracket to mount down at the brake line junction at the steering stem housing.Have the junction come over to the right about two inches.

Donm-It may be "tight"so to speak, but it won't pull unnecessarily-the lines are connected to your steering stem housing.Once set,it can't pull any more. You may try adjusting your brake perch at the clamp and see if you can get a tad more slack. But it shouldn't "break loose" or anything.

If you really want your bars higher look at the LSL Bar Kit it has longer SS braided brake lines and a
billet top tripple tree that has a set back and comes with the AN1 7/8 bars. It's not cheap I am tall
too and it is Much better than and of the other spaces as far as height. Also install Buell front pegs they
will give you more leg room too.

The stock lines have a strange little hard section in the middle on the long line that goes down to the right caliper. It is bolted to the center of the forks about halfway down, as was mentioned you may be able to get a little slack by undoing this bolt and finding a spot where it can sit that gives you room and doesn't pull at full lock in either direction. You would have to make up a small mount attach it somewhere to the right of the original hole, but this is your only option without going to aftermarket lines.

lab3,thanks for that info, the genmar risers are a full inch taller,i went out for an 80 mile ride yest, what a difference they,i got them cheap off ebay,so i'm gonna kepp em,but i did loosen the bolts on the brake perch n rotated it down and that took some tension off for sure, but still a little tight, but should be fine, but you were saying I could use buell pegs for more comfort? did u mean right off a buell bike? i've never heard of that, and which ones work best, thanks

Less than $30.00 I noticed a difference in leg room and my boots stay on them better no rubber.

Installing the pegs is very easy - there are 2 models of Ulysses drop pegs but either way you will have to slightly enlarge to hole to match the pin you pull on the stock ones. Just find the perfect size of drill bit that slips into the stock pegs and carefully open the new ones up. One of the two types also needs a sliver of meat shaved off the end to 'fit' properly.

When you install them, you will need to adjust the controls. For the shifter just pull the bolt on the spline and move it down a single notch depending on preference. Some people with giant feet complain of catching the side-stand nub, and whack most of it off. On the brake side, you will need to adjust the brake pedal rod itself to drop the thing as much as you like (10mm wrench and twist the rod). When you are happy with that, carefully hold the plastic switch housing for the brake light activator and then run the 17mm nut up the threads with the key on - you will see when you are far enough to make the brake light go off and not be TOO sensitive.

Done!

Corbin makes a cool set of castings that are about $90.00 that lower the pegs, check them out too. www.corbin.com
and click on ZX-14 they have hard bags painted to match if you in to that. I have soft bags
a C-14 seat and a Zero Gravity Sport Touring wind shield I install with a Euro Spec 2007 Hand
Rail kit for my USA model 2007 ZX-14 bolts on behind the 14 seat for long trips. 30 minutes to install
as they all come OFF as soon as I am back home :-) can't use the seat cowl with bags or the hand rail.

domn did you look at the Corbin castings that move the stock pegs even more? Let us know

hey louis,I put the new buell pegs on,big difference, they are actuallt bout 1.5 inches lower, cuz that rubbeer piece on the stock pegs was bout 1/2 inch thick, apparantly there are 2 sets available, the ones I got were a lil too thick,so had to shave a lil of each side, and drill the hole a tiny bit bigger, but no biggie, they fell great, thanks for the info,I didn't look at the corbin ones yet,I may check em out,but I think the pegs are perfect, thanks again

Hey Don

I forgot to tell you to drill out the hole a little. I also had to adjust both side pedels.
My boots stay on the buell pegs better. Glad you are happy with them. I did some researching
on the Corbin castings and there was a lot of negative posts about them being too far out.
Keeping my Buell pegs. Have fun, life is short, go for a ride :-)

I put my Genmar risers on my 08 with no changes whatsoever. I had to carefully "rotate" the right clipon up onto the fork tube, but it went on just fine, and the brake line is taut but not stressed or otherwise damaged. 1,000 miles and counting, no problems.
