ZX14 aftermarket exhaust repacking ?????
01/11/18 10:46 AM

Other than Akrapovac are there any other aftermarket exhaust slip-ons that don't require repacking? What effect is there on the exhaust if you don't repack it? I was looking at the Yoshi R77 slip-ons for my 2017 ZX14R but was kind of discouraged when I was told they require repacking about every 7000 miles. With the amount of riding I do that means I'll be repacking the exhaust two or three times a riding season. Thanks

I have 8k miles on my Yoshi R77 and with the baffle in they are almost too quite. I only remove the baffle for track days.

My Muzzy stainless slipons have about 8K miles on them and still sound like new. Since the material is soft fiber, I don't think any of them are gonna last forever. Also, if the end cap simply unbolts/unscrews it doesn't seem like repacking should be too much trouble

All aftermarket slip-ons I have seen have some sort of fibrous packing that eventually burns out and needs replacement. Slip=ons are most all basically a straight pipe with a pillow between the swiss-cheesed pipe and the outer casing. When the packing burns out, the pipes get louder (of course) but the exhaust charge is no longer confined to the straight pipe and performance may suffer.

Best readily-available material for repacking is common rock wool insulation. Probably lasts just as long as factory-supplied repacking kits. The trick is getting the right amount in without trying to stuff too much.

I bought Two Brothers repacking kits and they were really cheap. Revzilla I believe. Pretty sure they will work for about any re-packable can. Have not needed to use them yet 6000+ miles into these 2bro's m2carbon cans, ( the 2B instructions said they'd need a repack from 3k to 5k)but am installing Brocks CT single full system this weekend so I wont be using them any time soon.
