So far all we know is 4mm more ,a head fairing cosmetic change and the letter R .The bore will give more bottom end, mind you they could of done that on gen 1 and 2 with electronics. No mention of bigger throttle bodies, any change to the head, traction control or ABS.If all Kawasaki does is bore out the motor they should be shot and pissed on

Wait a minute. This was a drag bike with staging and rev shift lights. No ABS weight. Well, you see those empty spots next to the battery? ABS box. See those empty harness couplers? ABS/Key Fob tampering. You just don't get it on this model.
What about the mode switches way back with Suzuki's 1000? That was watt? 2 years about ancient ago? Now you have the RG -G switches:
1. Grandpa get off now.
2. Grandpa get ready mode switch is in the middle.
3. Grandpa gets a handful where's the restroom?

If all Kawasaki does is bore out the motor they should be shot and pissed onWhy? All they have done thus far is change colors. When that started to get lame, they went for BNG.

This selectable power switch thing is gonna be interesting.IF it only runs as our no-flies remapped bikes run now(in 'hang on mode')...then yes...it will be a disappointment.I sure won't be getting one.Gonna be fun seein how the new 1440 performs. It 'concerns' me a little that they seem to have 'followed' Suzuki's lead on the mode switch deal.As far as ABS...I can do without that for sure.Traction control?Hmmmm...that may be okay...IDK.Never rode a bike with traction control.I still don't want to find out what a slipping rear feels like...not at 130 leaned over and railing.Which reminds me.
Out today for a really nice ride.Had my video cam rollin...like I was at the time.130 comin through a nice set of fast 's's'.One of my favorite spots.Truck comes rollin through oncoming lane...hey,no prob.Get to the next curve in the 's'....OOOPPPPSSSSS....sheesh...not good.Leaned way in,majorly breakin the law...that round object there....right on the left side where the mirror is SUPPOSED to be...aw geez...Highway Patrol.Friggin Radar.Well...so much for another ticket free season. So I finish the 's'...may as well, right?Slow up on the straight....lookin in my rear view...they sure are nice aren't they?Hmmmm....no one back there.Nothin.Another little bit....still nothin.Okay....I'm a nice big fat ticket....wtheck?Nothin.Took that as my heavenly sign to chill(at least for a bit
).Went on up the road several miles....'chillin'...finally pulled off and had me a cigar. What a day!Awesome.IDK WHAT kept that guy from pullin a major U-turn and chase!I was leaned way in and rollin as we passed each other. That just doesn't 'happen' ya know?Sheesh.
Yeah,I can just see me with a 1440.... ![]()
Kinda cool though havin it on video ![]()
I was pullin somewhere around 8 grand...something like that...maybe more,so my TiForces were kickin.I KNOW he had to see me(and hear me).No way around it.
Just as I passed him,I looked in my rear view....nary a brake light...dude didn't even slow down ![]()
You don't suppose my bike is tryin to tell me "hold onto me....I'm yer Huckleberry" ![]()

Mode switch:
Finally returns to the first year mode = No lose face!
Middle mode sets the bike to second gen subthrottle mode.
Race mode or retracts the landing gear like locks them open finally.
ABS:
Option not to use the system at all is mode one.
Mode two is street mode from greasy lines to pebbles at the stop signs.
Rain mode is super sensitive. This is washing the front end into a turn and the wheel releases so you can steer again.
Traction Control:
Mode one is the blue channel. This is where; even if you hit the rev limiter in 1st gear, it ain't gonna spin.
Spin mode two is as soon as it feels a wrinkle, the ignition snaps retard, the fuel drops out momentarily, the back wheel goes whaa-whaa-whaas it cylinder chunks each pulse off until, the bike comes out of the corner and hooks up in other words.
Last select, the puppy is off so you don't ride around blue in the face you can't spin it up and step on his balls he ain't got any kind of mode switchere you go.

Hurst, Euless or Bedford? No matter, I'll be there tomorrow Progrocker, part of my Saturday morning ride. Do you know that Starbucks in Centreport, it's on Trinity Blvd just east of Hwy 360 by American Airlines HQ?

POTENTIAL is a cool thing. Riding something that COULD go 180+ is exhilarating. Also, most really fast motorcycles are a blast to ride at more reasonable speeds.
...for a while, they are. At some point I want to know what it really is like. crashing at over 150 prolly means certain death but how much more likely is it to happen at 180 than 100? either a deer is gonna run out or he isn't. mechanical failure would be my biggest concern.

Yup.You're right on Rook.Bout the only thing that "might" save ya in a Deer running out situation...would be your ability to slow fast enough without locking. At 'normal' speeds....it's quite doable...IF you see em in time. But from what I've seen and heard from guys here...they darted out from the side with no previous warning. No escaping that one...whether 100,or 180.So far...I've been VERY fortunate. All the deer I've come across have been at the roadside...visible(most) and up ahead.Gave me time to slow...way down...and hit the horn.Been crash free. The closest I had happened just a while back.I was railin..yeah,I was.Takin a nice big downhill sweeper after cresting the bigger open right hander.Leaned in.Rollin.Saw a flash ahead.Cool...it's a fawn.Ran across with plenty of room.BUT....it's brother(or sis,IDK)decided the coast was clear as well...after waiting for several seconds to make up it's mind.I didn't see that guy UNTIL I was like 20 feet on him.20 feet at...well...you know.Goes by like REAL QUICK.Just missed his...tail...yes.Scared the do do outta him I'm sure. But we both survived! He'll have some story to tell his kids some day....it was VERY close. If he'd of stopped for any reason,I'd have been crunched good. You know...that fawn was pretty smallish...but at..well,you know....BIG BOOM.And leaned over...sheesh.

Prog says"the right road"...yep....definitely gotta be the right road.I've got several here....very nice.Empty for the most part.Wide open.LONG.....you can see all the way to the end(at least a mile and a half).BIG open shoulders....great visibility on both sides.

If you're not a DFW, TX local, you'll probably want to skip this..
Kruz, yep, I know where that is. (I'm in NRH) I noticed the Starbucks on 183 in Bedford (or Euless?) draws a bunch of sportbikes. Maybe we can hook up one day.. (I have a gig Saturday, going to Goodguys Sunday, I think.)
I ride up through Decatur/Forestburg/ST.JO frequently (today, as matter of fact); that direction is the quickest way for me to get to 2 lane w/least amount of city to cross. Also found a road west out of Decatur, FM 1810 (left turn off 287 just after 380 exit), that goes through Chico, skirts north of Lake Bridgeport, and ends at 57. The topography and scenery changes west of Decatur.. Pretty wide open, lots of cactus, some nice sweepers and a little bit of elevation change. If you go 57 South, you end up in Jacksboro. (Good mexican restaurant in the square) That's a very rural ride; spartan residences, and fewer gravel trucks than the Forestburg/ST.JO route. They didn't get rain up there last night...the roads were dusty; crazy wheelspin.
677 N. out of ST.JO, when you get to the road (can't remember the #, sorry) where you would turn east to Muenster, turn west instead. Soon you'll come to a nice wide road to the right that is a gradual downhill and crosses the Red River. That road has great visibility from the top, and I think it has only one crossroad, after the bridge, which you can see clearly from a long way. It's long, straight as an arrow, and makes for a perfect top speed run. (If you're into such) I've gotten very picky about where I do that kind of thing in my old age...funny how you become more in touch with your mortality when there's more behind than ahead.
If you have any recommended rides in the area, lemme know...
BTW, If you have any interest in progressive rock/jazz fusion/guitar shred/virtuoso musicianship, come out to O'Riley's tonite. I manage & produce guitarist/composer Michael Harris. My name is John, can't miss me; look a lot like Jerry Garcia (So I'm told, ad nausem).
Have an aviation connection as well; a topic for another post no one would want to read. (Cessna 195's, Waco, etc.) This should have been a PM, I know... Good to meet you.

Blue, I just read a thread on here last night; a member hit a deer broadside @ about 70. All the plastic on his 14 was wiped in the front, shoved the fan into the rad, looked BAD. Miraculously, he didn't go down.. He didn't say that he thought it bent the forks (I'd sure be checking susp/frame, etc), but some of the guys were trying to help him figure out why it won't start. Very lucky guy to come out of that unscathed..
We have a ton of deer here in TX; it's the one you don't see coming that keeps my speed down when the trees/foliage get close to the road. Had a buck literally jump onto the hood of my Corvette in the Ozark mtns. Was a good thing it was dark and I was taking it easy...

Yeeesh.Sounds VERY uncool!Tell ya the truth here...I honestly think my TiForces have a certain decibel or something that alerts em to like stop, and freeze.Enough time for em to figure out...okay...bright azz HID's,dark shape.Think we'll just hang out right here off the roadside where it's nice an safe.Maybe?....IDK....who knows. But since I installed these pipes(which are not necessarily loud at cruise),the deer just kinda stand there and raise their heads like they're really payin attention.Weird.But cool.None of em have even acted like they were gonna bolt.
For Dragking...you'll have to come UP my man...on the Canadian border.Montana.Northwest Montana. And make sure ya bring yer longjohns! ![]()
I know this is a fatalist kinda view...but....I feel(kinda) in the back of my mind that IF I nail a Deer....at any speed above legal(or legal as well)...there's gonna be damage.I'm either gonna crash and burn,or my bike's gonna be totalled. In all honesty...hitting something is bad enough, but my feelings are....the impact is gonna last for a split second, whether it's nailing something or falling. In all my crashes over the years...I cannot remember a single one where I actually FELT the pain.I remember crashing,yes...but not feeling.Waking up,yes....stunned,yes.But in shock. Not feeling anything really.I know...kinda simplistic...but that's how I look at it.The faster you're moving, the harder the impact is gonna be...and the quicker you're gonna go into shock. That's how it's been with me anyway. That guy that nailed that deer...geez...he was WAY fortunate he stayed upright. That's amazing. And to be able to continue riding? He had to be on autopilot.Probably wasn't feeling anything but stunned.IDK.
It's really not that far to the ground on our 14's.So you're 'probably' gonna survive to ride again...even at supersonic speeds.Unless of course, someone hits you and crunches ya real seriously.Or ya get in a head on or somethin.Probably won't get hurt too much with a lowside as long as yer fully suited, armoured, helmeted.Regardless of speed. And ya don't hit somethin like a tree or guardrail while yer slidin.
I mean,it's like this to me...you hit,ya crash, you either walk away or end up in the hospital. One or the other.Over in a few seconds.I don't know about anyone else here, but when I hit,I go into shock like really quick...where I don't really feel much at all.Stunned is more like it.Numb.Awake,but not feeling.

When you're going fast as hell, sure Deer come to mind, for me its the chain letting go, and slinging itself into my cases, embedding it in the transmission, and the inner mechanicals are on my leg, and my back wheel has been skidding for 400 ft before I 'know it', that's what's scary. If you've never had a chain let go, pray you don't! I had on one of my dirt bikes when I was a kid, not pretty...
