LED vs HID Headlights
03/20/15 9:13 AM

I bought my '09 ZX14 last June. The prev owner installed HID headlights (low beam only). He did a piss poor job and now the neutral indicator and the oil light will flicker or stay on at random times while I'm riding.

If I reach under the instrument cluster and gently pull on one of the wires coming from the HID box, the indicator lights stop flickering, so I know there's something amiss in there.

So, to the point, I'm thinking of either 1) taking it out and replacing with LEDs (high and low beams this time) or 2) getting in there and trying to figure out what's wrong with the install. There's got to be a short or crossed wire in there somewhere. It's so tightly packed in there that it's hard to debug.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a complete LED headlight replacement kit? Do you buy 4 regular headlights and two high beams? Or is there a complete kit for the ZX-14?

Thanks!

There's a larger issue here: I've been running HIDs for 25,000 miles with no ill effects anywhere on the scooter.

Either your scooter's HID install compromised some wiring or the kit is malfunctioning and feeding back into the bikes system.

Better find out which and correct it before you throw on an additional mod.

Led is not worth the time or $$
They will not outperform the HIDS as far as beam pattern. Yeah you get a brighter light that only puts out 6 feet ahead..vs the hid that puts the beam out 15' ahead..

Just remove the old HIDS and put another set in....if interested I can get you Core Moto HIDS at a good price for all four bulbs..

Blackpearl- does coremoto offer individual parts for the hid? Or will they only sell the whole kits...I don't need the kit...I think one of my boxes took a shit last summer...it blows the fuse for my RH light bank...basically I have no RH lights because of it...had to switch back to stock halogens just so all four lights would work...
