Clock won't stay set
12/13/11 2:29 PM

Ever since I set my clock back a couple of months ago, my clock won't keep time. It seems to be ok for a while, but after the bike sits for a few days, it is WAY off. Several hours. Anyone ever heard of this???

I should say...battery discharging.Electrics still on when she's sitting. She will go dead within a certain time(depending on temps).Try a battery tender on there...hook up the pigtail.Voila! No more clock stopping .

Sounds like the battery tender is the answer. Thanks everyone.

Battery.

+1

Mine sits all winter on a maintainer and clock is on the $$ when I start up in Spring except an hour behind cuza daylight savings time.

BcV, I would recommend the Schumacher 1.5 amp battery maintainer. You can get at Walmart for under $20. Works just as good as the Battery Tender Junior but half the price. I think the Schumacher is easier to read the display becuase it has two diodes for charging and charged. The BT Jr has only one diode and it changes color and/or flashes. Hard for me to tell if it's green or red but I'm a bit color blind that way. The Schu comes with pigtails and aligator clips like the BT Jr.. The BT Jr has a little bit nicer connector on the end of the pigtails. Just make sure you tape the 12 volt/6 volt selector to 12 or you will have a half maintained battery when it comes time to start it up.

Schumacher clicky link here!

or just dump that ball and chain stock battery and get a Shorai. 14A2 is about 1.5 lbs compared to 11 lbs of stock. The Shorai will go 3 months without a maintainer but I would rec using the special Shorai maintainer which costs ~ $80 just to be sure the battery cells are being kept balanced. It costs but a nice weight loss and probably not much more than replacing and properly maintaining the OEM.

BTW, my 14 Ah Shorai sat on the shelf out of the bike for 4 months this summer/FAll. It was weak when I out it in but still started the motor in 40 F and that was a motor that was not run at all for 4 months too.

After charging in the bike it was good as new. Performance same as Stocker battry. Little slower cranking on the cold days but still gets 'er done.

Is there a maintainer that I can plug into my cigarette lighter outlet that I installed?

If your cig lighter is hot all the time,

You mean if the cig lighter receptacle is wired directly to the battery instead of wired to ignition.

With the battery tender ends, if they use the smaller alligator clips or they are the eyelet style, just take the boat shop lighter's clip, make contact with the eyes.
You would have to connect the pigtails to the the battery tender as it is normally hooked up but instead of connecting the +/- eyes to the battery terminals, you would connect them to the male cig lighter wires.

.....basically you are converting the +/- wires pigtails to a male cig lighter plug.
