1. Is the "kink" in the clear vent hose not a problem? I can't see how gasoline will be able to flow fast enough through that very kinked restriciton before flooding the fuel filler recess in the tank. I also cannot see how I could UNkink it, as it has to make that very tight turn and stay INside the 5 mounting bolts, right?
The hose on my EVOtech was a soft silicone-like material. I believe I routed it to the outside of the screw boss to help avoid kinkage but it's possible it was also kinked in shipping now that I think about it. I think a typical heat expansion fuel overflow would be slow enough to run through that. Question is: is that the right material to contact gasoline for prolonged periods? I have used vinyl hose to syphon gas and it gets stiff almost immediately. Might crack over time. I would check on something like silicone or maybe the proper grade of tygon for gasoline.
Just looking at it, I wonder if that hose will even fit in the overflow port? Seems to mine was about 3/4 that diameter and it was a tight fit. You can just leave the hose off. I do on my LighTech because it didn't have a hose. No problems just careful how high you fill.
Is there an "outer" gasket on the OEM filler assembly, or does the OEM filler assembly outer ring bolt directly to the metal surface of the fuel tank with no sealing gasket between them?
It is just the gasket that contacts the rim of the filler neck hole. No gasket goes around the perimeter of the ring where the screws are.
Looks like you got a gasket. I would use that.
I'll have a look at my EvoTech install photos tonight and report back what I see.
By the way, the new gas filler assembly, including the 5 new bolts, weighs 0.29 lb!!
This makes a weight saving of 0.59 lb = 67% over the OEM assembly!
