zx14r steering dampner
05/04/13 8:45 PM

Does anyone besides me feel these beasts should have come with a steering dampner? Hell, even my low tech 06 Busa had one. Pretty sure the high tech zx10r has one. Does anyone know of one available besides Scott or GPR? Just really not all that crazy about rotary dampners....

Regards, John

I really thought about getting one but to be honest, I have run it between 100-140 for long-ish distances and around some of the nice twisties we have in Ohio and she has been rock solid. Now my buddies R1 NO WAY in the world would I ride that thing without one. But in all fairness he has lowered it a lot and I thing that seriously effects the stability.

I kinda want one. The reason is on some rides that I do hit regularly, have some serious transitions and the damper helps when going from say 2/3's leaned hard to the same lean hard the other way. The transitional stability is what I want that damper for.

Want one, and saving for one! In hard acceleration, and transitions I just find it smooths out manouvers...

I had one situation where one would have helped. On a country road, slight incline, I was accelerating hard in third gear and hit an unseen frost heave in the road with the front wheel. The front wheel popped off the ground and landed with a wiggle. Scary at 100 MPH or so. A dampner would be a great addition to an already great bike !!

don't forget ohlins and hyper pro. I haven't needed one yet but understand I will be required to get one to run in a LSR event.

I've been considering one of these as well. If anyone's installed one or has links to some that would be great!

OK...Just bit the bullet and bought the GPR unit. Should be with me in the next 14 days. Once fitted and tested Ill post here. Wanted to go with this unit as there is no drilling/modifying to be done....straight on bolt on application. Everything I have read about it seems positive and as other people have stated, the 14R is pretty stable anyway, so this is really for my own piece of mind. I've had a couple of instances where the front-end has seemed less than confident, mainly when I've been "into it", but that's when you need all the confidence a bike can muster!!! Right!?
So will keep you all informed once it arrives.

Cheers
Scott

Darryle bring the camera mount over to the house with you. The 6R has the Ohlins and the 14 has the Hyper Pro. This will let you see both of them up close. We can test the camera mount. My guess is Yes but with out installing we can't be sure ?????????????

Same offer wolf, come see and test in person, this will Help you decide.

Romans, mad love, will try and see it in action on the next Bike night!
Cheers!
Romans can you still low speed creep in first gear or does the damper just make it too stiff to oscilate the front wheel?

Wolf the Hyperpro RSC has been more of a set it and forget it damper. Jar the handle bar and gets stiff. Reacts to conditions. Along with it's Solid Mounting great product. Low speed creep not a issue unless you crank it up and forget,,, ask me how I know ? Quote below gives better explanation.

The RSC steering damper is unique in its kind and is above all other steering dampers. It behaves like a linear steering damper while normal riding, having all the functionalities like the CSC Steering Damper, BUT when it comes to the real work, like tankslappers and wobbling, the very quick movements of the steer, where the linear damper helps to control the bike, the RSC will react in a direct way with a lot of extra progressive damping, to give you the real support you need. As we say the "worlds best steering damper!"

The ohlins on the sixer is crap due to Poor valving,(kawi Spec grrrrrrr)can be sent out to be fixed for more $$$$$

will try and see it in action on the next Bike night!

My buddy Steve just got his boosted 14 back together should be with me next Thursday. His bike shown in pic above with Ohlins damper

Romans, we don't have a last you buy the beer policy. But if my boys did, we would exceed highway limits at double digits. We already push pretty hard.

Love to see that turbo!

I'm sorry guys but a dampner on any 14 is just a waste of money really. I know for you guys you are bored and lookin for ways to buy something for your baby, hell we ALL do it. I'm on my second 14 and NEVER heard someone ever have a headshake or ever really need one. This bike out of any bike i ever rode does not need one at all. Unless you have a turbo,or a big shot of nitrous,it simply is not needed, and is a waste of money. I have had my new 14r and a shit ton of times my older 14 topped out and bangin thru the gears, and when i had my older 14 i was only in the high 150's to low 160's weight wise,i would wheelie go over crest's in the road etc, etc. never once did she headshake AT ALL. Now i have a lowered and streched 14r which throws off the bikes balance a lil,and when i go hard thru the gears up to top speed..........PERFECT. But all in all you won't listen and go buy her anyway,so my point is next time you just want to burn money away on your bike just to buy something, instead send the money to me and i'll send you a SHINY NEW STICKER for your bike and it will do the same thing for your bike!!!!!!!! Deal.

A damper is required for any LSR events

Yeah i know that about LSR. But again these guys are street crusiers, not drag or lsr guys. And the rule in lsr is for safety just like the kill switch in drag racing. Not really needed but just for insurance purposes.
