I cut off the front lenses and just secured them with silicone into the front fairing. They're very light though probably a few ounces heavier than carbon fiber.
That's a great idea! I was going to take the lights out and press them in damp ceramic clay. Then, before the clay shrinks and dries past leather hard (that's a ceramic term, stiff but not dry) press 1/8" sheets of polymer clay in the mold. Form a lip around the whole edge for mounting inside the fairing. A set of old headlights could be used as a support for the soft, uncured polymer clay pieces while they bake in the oven. It's not even very high temp cooking. After the polymer clay pieces cool, they are basically a tough plastic substance, harder than ABS. ...otherwise, fiberglass. Glue 'em in with some silicone and get rid of that headlight bracket in the top fairing. I even thought about how I might make an LED headlight. It would be satisfactory for at least daytime visibility. Might even be ok for nighttime riding. How complicated is a flashlight? It's a concave reflector. Put a bright LED in there and you have a headlight. ...but as I said, I have more money now and less time. I'll just pay someone else who came up with a good solution.
...just watch that silicone. You probably are aware but it has a lifespan. I sealed my 08 Hayabusa ram air tubes with GE (yes, General Electric) silicone which was highly recommended for it's durability. Several years later, it was possible to peel it off.
I think I will pursue the DIY headlight delete for the Gen1 I will own again someday. One thing I don't understand is why, when aftermarket body panel companies make their stuff, They include the parts that aren't there anymore. ...I mean directional lights on fairings and the city light on the headlight delete inserts. ...those things aren't there anymore so why don't they smooth them over? I would.
Your headlight deletes are surely more heavy than carbon fiber but the city light portion actually looks pretty cool with the shading effect you have going on in your paint job.
